Yarran, amazed some posters thought he was quiet. I'd estimate he played about 40-50% game time. When he was on the ground, he was excellent. Obviously the conditioning staff wanted him to have minimal game time because he was one of our best when he was on the ground.

Henderson, very impressed. Worked hard both ways, presented well, showed plenty of leadership/instruction in the forwardline. Seems to be at his best at the moment when running back into a "paddock" scenario. Just needs to demand the corridor a bit more which will come with maturity and experience.

I thought Walks was poor. I'd suggest less than 50% of his kicks hit a Carlton player. Is that enough? Not if we want to be a good side. Yes it's pre-season but his technique is poor and this is a perennial problem.

Thats great news about Yarran & Henderson.
Walker might be a great runner but his skills and decision making since arriving at the club have not improved - has been a major disappointment

Thanks everyone who posted reports on the game.
Heard the guy on SEN who at half time said we were in for a long season and i think he left the match.
Anyone know if there are any issues with Grigg or was just part of a rotation policy.
Where do we play next week?

We look so much better with Walker playing. He just covers so much ground. From one contest to another. Defensively he is great as he pushes back hard and his dash once we win the ball is what we need.

He does make bad decisions and misses targets a little but the degree of difficulty in what he is trying to do is pretty high. Hopefully this improves a bit but even if it stayed as is he is still a great assett to the team.

There is a reason why clubs do skills training multiple times a week, before and throughout the season...how many has Walker missed in the entirety of his career. Give him a @#$%&! break!

Camel, thanks for posting Ratts' press conference.
In this day and age, is it that hard for the AFL or the clubs to organise a microphone for journalists at these conferences? I can never hear their damn questions!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Maybe by 2020 they'll have worked it out.

IIRC when Foxtel does extended coverage, which usually includes full the press conference, they have a boom mic moving around so you can hear the Qs.

Actually he was out of sorts, or maybe 'smarts' early on yesterday but he was better in the second half. Didn't have the usual radar for the ball but that's not uncommon this time of year.

I'm seriously his harshest critic, AW missed a running shot from 50 ,missed a target in the 3rd,thats it.
Best disposal I've witnessed from him for some time, but some only see what they want to see.
There would have been 18 players whose disposal was far worse.
As a Club, look forward to a bottom six placing, and imho no chance of any flag in the foreseeable future, the window closed shut the day they traded Fev.
And yep, I too can have an opinion, regardlees of how unsavoury that opinion maybe.

We've been playing Mickey Mouse football and come away with a win and a close loss. I look forward to the next fortnight where we'll likely given the younguns a real run next week, and as close to a best 22 the week after. You know as well as I do that's when the boys will be clicking into gear as a unit. ;)

DOA I know you are not joking but how short is your memory.

We were totally one dimensional with Fev.

Put two defenders on him.

He may be injured so no forward line.

He is 29 rising 30.

Plus he is a total bogan (maybe that's why he is a football genius).

In return we have Henderson and Lucas, both 10 year plus players. Henderson is already showing he will be the best CHF we have had since Sticks.

I can partially agree with DOA's opinion, that is, that the trading of Fev set us back a bit. For mine if we had Fevola in the team this year, then we would be pushing for top four. However I don't agree about the bottom 6 finish, nor the window closing completely. It will just take us a little longer than originally expected to push for a flag.

I'm a bit confused on this one.

If having Fev kick 80+ goals a season is our only hope of playing finals, how come we missed the finals the year he kicked 99? How come we've only played finals once since he became a dominant goalkicker for us? How come teams continually win Grand Finals with an even spread of goalkickers, rather than one dominant forward?

IMO, the No Fev/No Carlton theory is complete nonsense. There'll be short-term pain as the team adjusts, but what sort of chance would ANY team have of winning a flag if their entire goalscoring focus is via a single player? (None)

He firmly believes in a top 8 finish.
And how my mere opinions could draw an inference that he may be on the move leaves me,well, nonplussed. :donk:
