No disrespect to Kerr, and obviously I know Levi hasn't done a thing yet other than take 2 grabs in an intra club game, but I'd love to know why clubs take certain players ahead of others??

WHs said openly Kerr would be the most surprised player picked in the draft, and he wasn't on the Phantom Draft radar. And Levi was arguably the best contested mark in the TAC comp in 2009, and bagged 41 gls with a exceptional kicking efficiency. Levi would have appeared to have had more runs on the board??

So, how does Kerr get drafted in the ND, and Levi gets drafted late in the Rookie Draft?

I do note Levi wasn't on the Phantom Draft radar either.

No surprise to me. I had Kerr at 23 on my list. When a guy can kick a footy that well, he's pretty hard to ignore. I'd be surprised if he wasn't looked at by more clubs than ours.

Levi was a rookie pick at best for me. His lateral movement looked a massive issue, however an AFL pre-season has done him wonders and he looks to be a project that might just come off.

Kerr's TAC Cup Grand Final efforts probably ticked a few boxes for WH and co. His willingness to do the 1%'s at that level coupled with very good technical skills and pace gives him a bit of an upside. A chat to Graeme Yeats about how coachable the kid was probably took place and with a late pick probably it's worth the risk on a kid with this size (small) who could conceivably develop in a year or two as opposed to a big man in Casboult who is going to take some time and the rookie list the best place for him given the talls currently on the list ahead of him.

Unless it's a Number 1 or 2 draft pick, a lot of it is pure speculation and guess work.

As Football is so professional now, clubs give draft picks every chance to succeed unlike days of yore (when the draft stared) when they were pretty blasé about it.

I have spoken to my local Football clubs "Talent and Development" Manager about why some kids get overlooked and some get taken, and apart from Football, clubs look at mentality, attitude, generics etc. So at a guess I dare say Kerr ticked those boxes more then the other blokes drafted after him.

Wayne Hughes reads out player XXXXX when it comes to our turn?

Seriously I'd think it's based on best available at the time from the list of targets they have compiled.

If genetics come into it I'd be worried about Scully at 1 going by the size of the guy with him at the draft who I assumed was his old man!

If you went by that quite a few kids wouldn't get drafted ;)

I was wondering the same thing the other day. Not so much about Kerr and Casboult. But just on Casboult.

I was wondering what would be some of the reasonings for him not getting picked up earlier by people in the recruiting know? Are his deficiencies resolvable and whats his potential?

I think the 4 biggest things would have been:

A) Overage player in the TAC cup, much bigger than his opponents.
B) Below par Agility
C) Skin folds (i would assume recruiters would look at this as someone lacking desire to make it to the top)
D) Ground skills average

Not much you can do about A, i believe that now he's lost 10 kegs already that C has gone along way to being rectified and would surely help his agility and he's in an professional environment where he SHOULD have ample opportunity to be coached on a daily basis to improve his ground skills.

The fact he's such a good mark tells me he has great hands but i guess he hasn't mastered the nuances of the oval ball on the deck.

Casboult 198cm
103kg
41 goals 14 behinds
didnt play as a permanent forward
ignored by 16 clubs in the national draft a draft regarded as a bit thin

flower mind blowing

With Fisher out I cant believe he isnt in for this game and promoted

In this day of age there is a bit too much emphasis on skinfolds
far enough if its to do with a 28 year old Stevo
but not a big kid like Casboult

His form in the interclub match warrant a selection in at least one of the last fortnight of matches.

Yeah, Casboult is a big lump Keogh. He took some restraining on one of the earlier intraclubs by all accounts.

No rush with Casboult. The coaches and fitness staff know a lot more about preparing players than anyone here i am sure.

Looked a nice prospect in that intra club a couple of weeks ago.

Those were my thoughts also but he's starting to look like a chance for regular Bullants action.

I think Casboult will end up at FF in the seniors but we need to be careful we dont fall into the trap of looking for a saviour too early...
WH has his famous list where he crosses the names off and I guess Kerrs name was in front of Levi's.

198cm and 103kg...he's a heap better than I've given him credit for already. Great size he is, perfect for a tall forward. Agree he looked fantastic a few weeks back in the intra-club, and I hope like hell he gets a game this year.
