No big loss, as it was basically just a one goal loss if you take away the extra points for thier two 'super goals'.
Some observations:

Kane Lucas showed some good signs
Judd was his usual self
Hendo didnt do much and needs to have stronger hands
Kruezer was wasted up forward
Yarran looked our most threatening forward but needs to be more Garlett like in this chasing of opponents
Bower and Jamo did ok down back
Warnock will be all the better for his first propper hitout since playing with Freo in late 2008
Our disposals still need improing... too many sloppy turnovers
Our kick in problem still hasnt ben fixed

Good summation. Yarran should be our permanent full forward. He can lead, mark, kick, goal, run, majak, and bambooozle! He could kick 88 goals playing out of the goal square.

If your talking forward structure.... what forard structure lol...
We were absolutely terrible up there, but the midfield didnt do the forwards any favours with lackluster at best delivery into the forward line.
Saying that though, we cant expect our forward line to run like clockwork first gave after Fev's departure. It's going tp take time for players to learn each others game and for midfielders to gain confidence in the new structure and get rid of bad old habbits.
Yeah, Kreuzer and Hendo may not have done that well up forward tonight, but people forget that they re both still 20 years old.

Been out and haven't seen the game. Recorded it and will watch to form my own views.

Terrible news though re Fish. By all accounts he had a great pre season and no doubt would of been in the mix for a forward spot.

the overall structures were shot... too much overuse of the handball... and too much going backwards.

in every sport u get told to use forward momentum... u need it to do anything in life.. even push starting a car... the minute u go back its hard to punch forward with any true force... our players seem to have as instinct to not go forward.....which means pentration is nort efficient...

anyway... we overpossess and were back to what we have been doing under ratten.. no surprise seeing the coaches were left staus quo again.. thats what they have come up with collectively using all of their braniac powers...

Hate to say it , but I agree with Mr Negative (Synbad)
That was woeful.
And you know, the thing I really hated about the whole match was the fact that no one got my heart pumping. Fev always did cos he could change a game. Apart from Yarran ( who showed a lot but didn't deliver) there was just emptiness- a bit like watching Sydney each week. If we do win some games, I really don't want to win 'ugly'. I'd actually prefer to lose and have some fun. I've always gone to the footy to enjoy. If I want boredom I'll become an accountant.

highlight of the night for me was the umpire calling quarter time when the train went past and blew its horn.
ill be bringing a brass horn to games this year for when things are looking dreary........
as for what i saw from carlton, i dont think ive seen us so out of position in years, and as for henderson he might be alright if he could hold or judge a mark :donk:

im not negative... im just a realist...

hey... and remember... Roos had to do without half a forward line.. Hall... OKeefe and Olaughlan... and he found himself a guy we could have done with.., if Ratts cant use his brain to work out how to get through lines of defence.. he should have gone for a guy like Jetta.. who can run through them and put them on the backfoot to cause havoc

Of the players not playing tonight 5 could slot into the forward line very easily.
Hopefully the do anyway.
Waite, Setants, Betts, Hoops and Walker
With Fish injured i think Waite might spend alot more time up forward.
Might elevate Casboult and slot him straight into FF, no harm seems it wasnt used tonight.

We need to recuit players who can think quick, are agile, can execute and hit the target and if they can run fast....bargain.

I am happy to share this info to the recruiting team. :smoking:

Come on it is only NAB cup. Saints look shithouse last night........they will be better and so will we.

Thats a role someone like Yarran or Garlett could play if they (particularly Yarran) werent so lazy....

Swans/Roos gameplan didnt look much different from ours. It was a scrapfest. They were a tad bit cleaner and nailed some nice goals that got them over the line which didnt seem to bother us much.

Big calls by Synbad and Eddies and the Cruisers after a scrappy first Nab cup game of the year. Up there with those writing off Kreuser and Henda as forwards after that one game.

so sydney without a forward line.. no backline and no midfield... have the same gameplan as us.. only they do it better???

thats what youre saying right????

actually they have their own gameplan.. wee just dont have one... thats why theyre better at it than we are.. ours looks like their organised scrap fest.. just that ours is a disoraganised scrap fest....

tell me what you saw today.. from those closed training sessions???

was it the kick across the full back line to jacobs the quarterback???

you must have noticed that tactic... right???

I have never been to a closed session. They are closed so i dont go.

I saw a scrapfest tonight. Both teams doing whatever it took to hold posession. Looked like both teams were working their way into the year. The swans wanted it more. We didnt want it at all. We even helped them rundown the clock. They are better at scrappy games because thats what they do correct. So we did well to match them??

I did see the ball go across to jacobs. I noticed he was peeved that noone ran passed for the dish off. Quarterback?? dont start me on that phrase in AFL.

Looking for a gameplan tonight once your saw the team and the way it lined up is lol material. Clearly both teams were just out there to get their hands on the leather and lay a few tackles for the first time for the season.

You will be on about Ratten no matter what he does because he played in the horrible 95 GF team. I understand you have an issue with that and accept we are not going to hear the end of it but making big calls after tonight is jumping the gun a bit.

Saints would have thrashed us last night....

lucky it was just the Swannies...

look i cant believe we dont have any real setups... i dont mind losing but.. hey.. that was a very unsophisticated brand of footy were gunna be trying to execute... and if anyone says .. its suddenly gunna come good.. theyre dreaming.. if you cant execute the unsophisticated againsta weak team in a low pressure environment.. i cant believe youre gunna switch it on and be all intelligent when the heat is on....

we were all over the shop. game plan, game shplan. we aint got one.

last year we had two.

1 - give it to judd

2 - aim for Fev, what he doesnt convert he'll give one of the crumbers their best chance at it

lets get wayne brittain back (at least we had Ross Lyon and Woosha Worsfold as his assistant coaches back then!!!)
