Brad Hardie.

Started his career with a 3 vote Brownlow game against us and Finished Robert Walls' coaching career.

What opposition players over the years had always turned it on against us, or against one of our players that they would always match up on?

I can remember several times where Fevola had a gutfull and would go on to do some very stupid things through the frustration caused by Maxi. A few examples include the laughing, hugging, joking with the Saints blokes after we had lost in 2008

Huh?

He was laughing, hugging and joking with the opposition because he was so frustrated by their full back, rather than that he plays poker with them socially?

Yeah, that's what I made of it. You can't tell me he just used to refrain from kicking big bags of goals against the Saints just because he plays poker with them and doesn't want to hurt their feelings...
Watch a few replays of matches against the Saints over the last few years where Fevola has matched up on Maxi. He has been frustrated to the point where he has done some very ordinary things.

No-one said anything about throwing matches. I questioned your statement that he was so frustrated by their full back, he resorted to hugging his teammates.

Keep up the good work, chuckles. You'll have an emoticon named after you in no time.

Yep...no need to turn this into immature childish name-calling. If you have any problems feel free to PM me

Just to go slightly off topic here, it's lucky O'Keefe isn't playing for the Swans tonight. He's had our measure quite a few times.

So can you care to elaborate on your statement before I PM you with my problem? :banghead:

The way I see it is...Hudghton knew Fevola back to front...knew how to play him, how to get under his skin, how to frustrate him, and how to derail his game. Do you think if we had won the game that night, with Fevola kicking a bag, that he would have carried on like that at the end?? I don't think so.

As I said, watch some of the games we played against the Saints from about 2004-2008. Fevola did some very ordinary things, through frustration that would not have happened if we were 10 goals up and he was kicking a bag.

PM welcome

So if Fev kicked a bag, dominated and won the game singlehandedly against a team and a genuinely good full back that he's struggled with, he'd be less likely to be jovial with the opposition after the game, than if he'd had a shocker?

Watch the game in 07 when he kicked 5, set up a few more, nearly kicked goal ofthe year, and was amongst it all day, Rattens first game too I believe and see if there was that much of a difference?

He'd be with his own teammates celebrating breaking a drought, praising, congratulating (etc) rather than hanging around them you would think.
But if the truth be known, this thread is quickly turning into a debate about what a player would have done, how he would have reacted in certain situations and so on. Not what this thread is about.

Moving on...
Lewis Jetta has a lot of Andrew Lovett in him...on the field that is. From last night's game, his ability to find another gear when being chased down is what carves us up. Can see him giving us grief over the next few years.

Well, he kicked 82 goals in 25 games against us, which is 3.28 goals per game. Hardly "ordinary".

You know, a player who kicks 3.28 goals per game would kick 72 goals in a season. If we had one like that at the moment we'd be salivating.

Hence my use of the word 'comparitively'. He averaged 4.7 goals per game against all teams, so 3.28 is actually not a great return for him Keep in mind that in this thread we are looking at players who seemed to play their best against us - Dunstall clearly could not claim to have played his best against Carlton.

In fact, except for Freo (who he only played 4 games against very late in his career), he had quite easily his worst record of all clubs against Carlton. He had considerably better records against all 13 other clubs.

By the way, comparing the averages of today's goal kickers versus those who played in the 80s and early 90s is not wise. It's a completely different game.

Sav Rocca murdered us early in his career. I remember sitting in the car, listening to the radio thinking, 'we've got 'em' only to have Sav kick a bag! Damned maggies

For the Roos aswell.

Speaking of forwards, Nathan Thompson used to put on a big one against us, both for Hawthorn and for North.

Are you a lawyer or something? I wasn't especting the Spanish Inquisition!!!! Like I said, he seemed to have our measure. Just because he had other teams' measure more, doesn't negate that. And 3.28 goals against us IS a great return. Who else averaged that against us?
