Bit of a nothing article but it appears Swanny was sitting in on the interview.

Quote:
I opened by reading a couple of sentences from Robert Shaw's column in Inside Football of February 10.

The former Essendon* player and Fitzroy and Adelaide coach described Carlton as a "rudderless conglomeration of players who have achieved nothing and have totally misread what real arrogance and invincibility is all about".

"Let's hope Carlton's football in 2010 is a damn sight tougher than its decision making," he added.

"Haven't read it, just heard about it, so I don't know what he's on about," Kernahan replied.

"Robert Shaw . . . he might be dirty he didn't get a job here when he was trying to all those years. I don't know, you'd have to ask him."

Not a bad interview. No arrogance - and pretty honest.

Is there a maximum period of time someone can be the president?
or is it an unlimited amount of time?

I thought they changed the club constitution after the debacle of 10 years or so ago.

I thought it was a great interview.

I like the way he doesn't mince words.
I also appreciate that there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that none of us are privy to.

He knows where we want to get to and he got the Mars deal over the line. Cradit where credit is due.
In a great team effort he has been part of the team which has turned the club from a $19M business to a $36M business in 3 years.

He makes a good point at how hard Ratts is marked, and that's part of the parcel if you are associated with any of the Big 4 Vic clubs.

I'm glad Kerna pulled up the smitten Sheehan and put him in line to turn the interview into something more positive than what the HUN/ Sheehan probably intended given where the interview was going right from the beginning. That's talent, but more importantly, Kerna is a respected and well liked person.

I'll give him the next 2 years to reap the rewards of a lot of hard work behind the scenes to steady the ship....as long as he and his team in future show abit more respect towards its fan base Australiawide...and grow the brand.

how many presidents:

A. Can you name easily
B. Give interviews regularly

I think you're the sad one by the way, perhaps focus a bit on Swann from time to time also.

Could've done without the f-bomb in there. No complaints otherwise.

or maybe Robert Shaw has a point and trying to discredit him or infer he has an agenda displays the ignorance of those in charge.
I loved Sticks as a player but the whole "we're Carlton, @#$%&! the rest" attitude belongs in a bygone era.

good interview....may not be perfect, but honest...sticks being sticks.

no hint that he was being arrogant. I got the impression, he managed the whole thing with a level of humility and reasonable resolve.

and to give the football club and sticks credit, directly from the Mars source who did the deal, carlton were professional and forward thinking.....Mars are committed to the decision and believe it makes perfect sense for them.

I tried to think of some media-savvy people and I wouldn't be impressed to have people like them as Prez of Carlton:
McChins, Brumby, K-Dudd,...

Sticks is authentic and I like it that way.

I must have been distracted by this bit in the article.

Kernahan, 46, says Carlton's strong progress as a business has been lost in all the scandal.

"This development (Visy Park headquarters) is just about finished and that was a huge project ($20 million). It was a big job and a great result," he said.

"We've got a full book of major sponsors, which is great. Three years ago, we were turning over $19 million. We'll do $36 million this year.

"We've had three years of record membership, our debt has come down every year (and) we've gone four wins, 10 wins, 13 wins.

"We've got a debt that's still there ($6.5 million) and I'd like to attack that over the next few years, but it's been a lot higher than that.

"It's building blocks for what we're here for -- that group out there (he is looking down on a training session).

What was it Juddy said.................Actions not words.

Regards Cazzesman

PS. Synbad will probably come on and tell us it's all Dicks money but the fact is we are on the way back financially.
