Love the way Grigga goes about it, but if he's the only sacrifice we'd have to make in this situation I'd be happy.

In return for a 2nd or 3rd round pick in one of the upcoming "raped and pillaged" drafts, oh my, what a deal!

I would be doing handstands if Grigga was our only casualty to GC17.

Other clubs will be feeling significantly more pain (relatively) than that.

We're going to lose someone for nothing like every other team, there's no way around it.

Agree totally, we have get used to the fact that we will probably lose a good young player. If it was a choice between Gibbs and Grigg we would let Grigg go every time. It would be a shame to lose him but it could be worse. I am so glad that Kruezer has re-signed, I would imagine they would have had a real go at him too.
This whole thing sucks and it is going to rip the heart out of some clubs and supporters.
The pathetic compensation that the clubs will eventually get is a joke. It would be good if a player, such as Ablett, agreed to go to GC17 on the condition that they did a trade, that way Geelong would get a decent pick.
Hate them already.

This can be moved to the GC thread if the mods want...

Pick 26 for Ablett?

Quote:
GEELONG would have to accept a draft pick as low as 26 if it wanted immediate compensation for a successful Gold Coast raid on Gary Ablett.
If Ablett walks later this year, the Cats' compensatory pick in the 2010 national draft will have to be pushed back to the end of the first round.

With Gold Coast's raft of concession picks stretching the first round out to 25 picks, that leaves 26 as the magic number for a Ablett "freebie".

It is a scenario that will be difficult for Geelong fans to stomach, given the Brownlow medallist is clearly the competition's No. 1 player.

But the AFL's complex compensatory rules would also give the Cats a Plan B.

Geelong could decline to use the pick this year and store it away for use at any time in the following four years, potentially taking advantage of a better compensatory pick.

As if this couldn't get more ridiculous.

This is becoming a farce. I have heard Neil Balme on radio explaining the compensation a club would get. If we did lose Gibbs, please no, at best we would get "a first round draft pick" for him, this pick would be immediately after our other first round pick.
I cant believe the 16 clubs agreed to these terms. To make it worse a club could lose more than one player if GC17 convince them to nominate for the ND and they use one of their many early picks to take them.
As i mentioned earlier, it would be good if a player only agreed to go if GC17 did a trade was done even if he is out of contract.

Only a ar$ehowle player or a very disgruntled player would burn his club, I can't see a Gibbs leaving if the CFC only get pick 26 or 14 or whatever.

The disgruntled side of the coin though is more rlikely.

Eddie Betts is out of contract this year, and you wonder if he thinks his penalty for the booze cruise was harsh?? Things like this, they could lead somewhere.

Hopefully not though.

We have a good young list so hopefully they all want success.

We can hold onto the pick and use it in a later draft.

The 2012 draft could be quite strong...

No to losing Grigg.

The comment that Ablett is the clear number one was ridiculous. ;)
