What's 4 times worse than getting into a physical altercation in the lobby of a 5 star hotel, pissed, wearing only your jocks?

What's 4 times worse than getting locked up for being drunk?

Hey, I might be the world's biggest prude, but I think I can safely say that there's no way I've ever mucked up 4 times worse than those guys, and there's no way I will either.

Im 25 and i can honestly say (eventhough looking back i am not at all proud of it)

That i was in an altercation at a five star hotel wearing a little less than speedos,

That i was locked up for being intoxicated ( after smashing my pride and joy into an uninhabited bungalow)

What im trying to say is that ( without sticking up for them that is) shit happens.

Yes i should've been more mature and not !@#$& up, but, shit happens, caused by arrogant a__holes.

Invincible.

I used to be one of those, but i've grown up and i know how bad i felt after it.

Hopefully they realise that too because life passes you by very quickly.

Especially as an AFL footballer.

Had a feeling it would happen, but hopes the Club wasn't stupid enough to actually do it ...........................

What am I talking about ??? The Walker/Betts/Houlihan "punishment" and their availability for the Challenger games

An article in the HS today says that Swann has confirmed that the trio will be available for the Challenger games, so if we get knocked out this week then they play next week (Brisbane at Visy) so their punishment is actually a 4 week ban from the club and missing 1 preseason game.

I came down pretty hard saying the Hurley punishment was piss poor considering his punishment for the "drunk and disordily" side of his incedent was missing the preseason games (no ban from the club) but now it looks like the Carlton punishment was the weak one.

I can see the media having a field day with this and wish the club was totally transparant regarding the punishment because now all they have done is opened the window again for the "booze cruise" incedent to be brought back up in the media.

I dunno Cornye,

I was as upset with the players' behaviour as anyone else around here at the time. But over the last few weeks I think I have a new perspective emerging. We've had an eventful off season - but I think we've made some inroads, and I do think the media has taken our crimes out of proportion (for one, I don't believe for one second that other clubs don't get up to the same antics. They just do it a bit more cleverly than us). We've traded our second best player, our captain has been shame faced, and I have little doubt that Eddie Betts in particular knows he is on his last chance at the club. The four weeks of not training with the seniors is now what I look upon as the main punishment for these guys. Suspension from the NAB Cup is a punishment that might hurt someone like a Steven Browne or a Kane Lucas (trying to establish themselves in the seniors), but it isn't much of a punishment to blokes like these three who are first choice players. So missing the training was the key punishment, and they've served that.

I can understand why people are still upset, but I think it is time to turn a new leaf and move on. If the lads get a chance to play NAB Challenge matches then good on them. I think they've all learned a lesson, and I hope that is borne out by their actions in 2010. If you want to compare it to Hurley - then he didn't miss any training. For a player of his age and experience, that would have been a far bigger punishment in many ways than missing NAB Cup. He's still a first choice player for them, and he'll be back as soon as they can pick him because he'll have the fitness base that comes with all the associated training he was able to complete with his team mates.

FWIW I think we'll beat Sydney this weekend anyway, so they'll have at least another week on the sidelines.

Geez some of you guys pick on everything the club does.

They suspended them for a month from the club, and are not playing any NAB cup games. What else do you want ? Walker and Houlihan were drunk but were not driving, they were in hotel rooms for goodness sakes. They had a fight with security that had a go at them for some reason. They are both good blokes so it must have been some hot shot security guards trying to be tough.

Betts on the other hand is a different story and probably deserved a bigger punishment than the others.

They never said they would not play challenge games or the start of the season.

We have a season to play, and it would be stupid not the have the guys play the challenge cup games.

Why cant we move on

Because the club KNOWS that the media will pounce on ANYTHING related to the club, the clubs culture and how they handle incedents within the club. Look at Caro's article on the weekend if you need any hints as to how the media will treat this "news".

The club should have come out when handing out the punishment and said the ban was strictly for the NAB Cup games, and didn't include the Challenger games. Instead they said they were baned from the pre-season games which could be interpurated in many ways (there was even discussions on if the Challenger games were included at the time, with many thinking it was a weak punishment if they were not)

I am not saying that the month away from the club + Nab Cup bans were a reasonable punishment for their "crimes", it probably would have been about right, but the club didn't clarify that at the time and it will now be seen and "Carlton saying one thing and doing another" in the eyes of many of the opposition supporters and media. To me it even seems as they wanted to pour some water on the fire with the punishment, implying they wouldn't play any pre-season games with the squad to look good in the media, but never really meaning it (giving themselves a loop hole in the punishment).

It may have saved the club some embarrishment at the time, making it look like the club was handing out a stronger punishment than they really were, but it could royally bite them on the butt depending on how the media decide to portray it ............

Well flower me gently from a rearward vantage point.

Haven't any of you posters been young?

6 pages of rambling. I bet all the posts were written before 9pm, when the lights go out.

Can't say I normally bite but this thread and the three or more pages about Yarran dropping a mark..............

When you get to the confession box and you are feeling pretty bad about stealing the last biscuit from the tin-even though you KNEW your sister wanted it, go easy on yourslef. It isn't that important.

My point itsn't about the punishment itself, it's about the fact that the club implied it was for ALL the preseason games (highlighted by Sticks coming out and saying it was going to be hard for the trio to play in rd 1 considering they wouldn't have played with the squad during the pre-season) when it was really only for the NAB Cup games. The fact that the club wasn't transparent with what the actual punishment was is inviting the media to bring it all back up again almost 3 months after it all happened.

How can we complain about the media (ala HS) being out to get us when we open ourselves up for it to occur ???

Pretty sure everyone knew that once we were out of the NAB Cup they would be free to play praccy games. This article is telling us nothing new.

They're more interested in our next stuff up.

Hey coryne,

I think we all agree that transparency is not the club's strong suit. And for the record I wasn't poking fun at you. Just those that tend to go into an angry hyperventilative apoplexy anytime something bad involving Carlton gets mentioned. But then again the interwebs is a serious place.

Exactly

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/newsar ... fault.aspx

Quote:
As a result, the Club has imposed the following penalties - in addition to the fines previously announced - to Eddie Betts, Ryan Houlihan and Andrew Walker.

- Suspended from the Club immediately for a period of one month - during this time they will complete all training away from the rest of the playing group and with the Northern Bullants;

- Unavailable for selection for the NAB Cup.

Nothing there about suspension from the NAB Challenge.

Are we still going on about this @#$#@

The guys got banned from the club for 4 weeks.
Worked their ass off at a gym for 7 sessions and are fitter then ever. They trained till they spewed.
They appear to be in form from the Intra club match.

Why do we have to bring up the past? Is this site 'talkingdaysofourlives' or talking carlton.

I pay a membership to win games, I don't pay a membership to see players in our top 22 sit on the pine. The club is satisfied with their punishment and that is all that matters in my book. Not anyone else and l don't care what the media or any one else says, @#$# them. We are Carlton. Our supporters used to be arrogant and confident, but if you look at most of the people on this site, i'm thinking we need to get Carlton handbags in the merchandise section.

Sometimes l doubt some of you guys on here want Carlton to win games or just talk about the negatives all the time.

It is a footy club, enjoy it. If Carlton don't bring you happiness, follow another sport or team, don't keep being negative about every single thing.

MOVE ON and stop bringing up the dirt.
