Was it Paul Prymke or Peter Prymke from Melbourne, who also had a good record on him?

I was thinking the same thing Molly. Great image. Just like the shot of Dean Wallis crouched on the ground just after the siren

Tony Lockett. Probably the only player from a range of great forwards of the era who had Silvagni's measure. I know Lockett rates SOS as one of the very best backs he ever played on, but there was something about Lockett in full flight that had even the full back of the century struggling at times. And to think Silvagni was a reluctant full back initially, and was only forced there because Michael Sexton couldnt cover a lead. SOS would have been centre half back of the century if he had been able to play in this, his preferred, position

Well, given Lockett's massive frame, hardly any team had his measure. He even kicked 6 goals in a losing Grand Final side while up against the likes of Mick Martyn and co in their prime.

I've seen that photo, I'd love to see it again. I think it's Ben Nelson in the background from memory.

Lockett kicked a few big bags on SOS, bt SOS also had a lot of good days on him....and I agree SOS would have beeen an even better CHB if he'd been able to play there.

As for Ablett, if we're talking about the 94 Semi final it was Hanna playing on him after SOS was injured.

Hanna had a pretty good record on Ablett himself pre-92 and Ablett moving to Full Forward. After that SOS had a fantastic record on him, but lets not forget Ablett's comment a couple of years ago that if he'd been able to take SOS further up the ground he'd have got the better of him.

Well guess what Snr, you're the forward, its your choice how far up the ground you go

Like when SOS baulked on the members wing in the 95 GF :smoking:

Anthony Ingerson used to always to turn it on us against as a forward and beat Sexton.

He did it at Melbourne too.

A few I remember were:

Justin Madden
David Rhys-Jones
Diesel Williams
Earl Spalding
Dean Rice
Adrian Hickmott
Chris Judd
Brock Maclean

If only they could've played FOR us instead of against us...... (sigh)

Those two almost always kept Kernahan quiet.

I always thought Langford usually had Kernahan's measure.

As for Ablett snr, from memory early on Tommy Alvin had a very good record on him.
As for Lockett, just a superstar, think he kicked 10 on SOS then next time SOS
held him goalless.

One bloke who really used to shit me was Peter Bell, even toward the end in a shit side.
And one going back a while, others were Simon Madden, Keith Greig, Schimmelbusch,
Rob Wiley, Dean Kemp, all good players but never seemed to have a bad day against us.

Cant believe no one has mentioned Simon Black...has he ever not turned it on against us ?

You're right. That's who I meant. For some reason I always get them confused. I think it was the mullet. Thanks for that.

What opposition players over the years had always turned it on against us, or against one of our players that they would always match up on?

I can remember several times where Fevola had a gutfull and would go on to do some very stupid things through the frustration caused by Maxi. A few examples include the laughing, hugging, joking with the Saints blokes after we had lost in 2008

Huh?

He was laughing, hugging and joking with the opposition because he was so frustrated by their full back, rather than that he plays poker with them socially?

Yeah, that's what I made of it. You can't tell me he just used to refrain from kicking big bags of goals against the Saints just because he plays poker with them and doesn't want to hurt their feelings...
Watch a few replays of matches against the Saints over the last few years where Fevola has matched up on Maxi. He has been frustrated to the point where he has done some very ordinary things.

Gary Pert and Paul Roos always gave Kernahan a run for his money when we played Fitzroy.
There was a heap of very good key defenders in those days to match the plethora of gun forwards.

Deisel had a few BOGS on Maguane. Sticks also cleaned up langford plenty of times. The title of the thread is always.

Just kidding. I cant think of any player that always had our measure. Medhurst pre collingwood and probably at collingwood has always been a worry.
