We play Sydney in our first NAB Cup game

Can anyone remember when the Swans last won a NAB Cup game :?:

They claim to be going in full-strength

Hi all,

Has Setanta fully participated in the pre christmas training period. I recall him having recurring problems late last year with the clotting in his legs and wanted to know if any of you know if he has recovered.

Check out the TalkingTraining forum for details on numerous open training sessions. I believe Setanta has regularly trained and seems to be ok.

A nice lazy Australia Day... so time to have a shot at this and see how miserable my efforts are!

I'm going mainly on training reports. I'm also going to guess that Ratts will play as many of his first choice forward line as he can, and rest some onballers and defenders. So here goes:

Backs: Steven Browne / Paul Bower / Dennis Armfield
Half Backs: Heath Scotland / Bret Thornton / Jordan Russell
Centres: Kade Simpson / Brock McLean / Shaun Grigg
Half Forwards: Brad Fisher / Setanta O'Hailpin / Chris Yarran
Forwards: Jeff Garlett / Shaun Hampson / Mitch Robinson
Followers: Matthew Kreuzer / Bryce Gibbs / Andrew Carrazzo
Interchange: Joe Anderson / Richard Hadley / Jarryd Cacchia / Rohan Kerr
Subs: Sam Jacobs / Chris Judd

Some explanations:
I don't think Jamison will be risked
Waite and Murphy obviously won't play
I expect McLean will play a half and then be subbed for Judd. I also expect that both of these blokes will be given time on the bench in rotations with Hadley and Cacchia
I have named Brad Fisher. Training reports seem to suggest he has really been pulling his weight, and he is still in the leadership group. His marking is sublime. I've been one of his critics, but I just have a sneaking suspicion he'll be given the NAB campaign to prove himself and see whether his increased fitness base allows him to overcome his defensive frailties. If he plays, he may even play closer to goal in the forward pocket
I think Austin, Henderson, and Warnock have all had enough interruptions that they won't play. If we reach round 2 of the NAB Cup I would expect Warnock will come in for one of Kreuzer or Hampson
Out of the draftees and rookies, I have only named Kerr and Cacchia. I would have selected Lucas, but with his recently reported knee problem I think they will let him cool his heels a little. Ellard is the other option for Cacchia (and certain training watchers would have him in instead). I think Kerr is one we will be looking at to rotate through that half forward line with Robinson, so I think he may get a taste
I've picked Steven Browne based on training reports
I think Kreuzer will play a half and then be subbed for Jacobs. I'd be surprised if we don't try to rotate the workload on our ruckmen a fair bit during the campaign
I guess the Chief is the other one who would be a possibility. That might depend on whether we want to give any of our other seniors a bit of a rest before the season (guys like Scotland and Carrazzo, or maybe even Thornton). But at this stage, I suspect we'll want to play all three of those guys.

Pretty good side Molly apart from Fish. We know by now what Fish offers so I rather give a youngster a taste like Donaldson or Casboult.

CARLTON captain Chris Judd will play an expanded role in the NAB Cup competition to afford him extra game time before his home-and-away suspension starts.

Judd said this week that he would be "having a big go" during the pre-season series, starting with the opening game against Sydney at Blacktown on February 20.
