An incident such as this could occur anywhere and at any time - ie they arent isolated to be just at niteclubs.
I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill here....
1. Yes obviously an incident can occur anywhere but common sense will tell you that pubs and nightclubs are area where more incidents occur and more incidents will occur in public either on the streets or in clubs after midnight. That is reality. Players need to minimise their chances of getting in trouble esp those with bad records. Do you think there is any reason why you dont hear of these sort of incidents with players like Kouta, J Hird, Buckley, A Simpson. Its because they are obviously more mature but also they dont put themselves in positions where trouble can find them. They value their personal repuatation and that of their club. You cant say the same about all other players. Better to have team rules about where players should and shouldnt be than leave it up to the judgement of people with obviously poor judgement. Do you know why Barry Hall has been incident free in Dydney. Its because he avoids going to pubs and clubs after hours. He visits friends and keeps within his circle of friends. Thats because he realises that sometimes the situation you put yourself in can create trouble that you werent looking for
2. Yes I know this was a minor incident but what I am about is trying to avoid a major incident, cos obviously then its too late.
Fact : AFL is a high profile sport in Melbourne
Fact: AFL players are scrutinised more than any other group in Melb
Fact: These players are predominantly 18-25 and are highly paid
Given that I dont think haveing an internal code of conduct is unnecessarily harsh or infringes their rights
