Well .... i have been watching 2005 wizard cup replays over the last week and it still staggers me just how well we played ... some of those games were really fast and skilful. Now i know that we were ahead of most teams in preparation ... but still, the skill level was so good ... and the pressure ... why we dropped away so suddenly I don't know .... Perhaps it was the ruck and midfield ... later in the season we started to play better and it was basically because we had Barnaby back ... and players such as Scotland started to get the ball.

Anyway .. this brings me to Lance (ready synbad) ... Lance was just amazing in these games. Not to mention Fev.... Do yourself a favour and check out these games again.

I really believe we will do well this year ... the youger players will be more mature with stronger bodies, we have strengthened the ruck ... midfield will be better ... backline better...

I think the Blues will surprise everyone.

I was gonna say it was Campo's, but he's not at the club anymore, so it can't of been him. :P

Why not? ....Campo is scapegoat Number 1.

If we win; it's cos he's gone and someone's stepped up....if we lose we miss his "leadership" and shoulda hung on to him.

Oh .. i am over it ...

My point was ...

In retrospect, I was amazed just how well the Blues did play.

Consequently .. 2006... with more maturity ... etc etc ... i think the Blues could surprise many.

And of course ... that Lance is to blame for all problems associated with Carlton.

I agree BlueRob...there seems to be one or two teams each year that do. It'll be us in 06!!

I still don't reckon we fell away suddenly after the Wiz.

The first six games were pretty good considering we lost our FB and CHB.

The Richmond game in Round 7 is what killed us.

T-Bird going down hurt us.
Livo going down was almost the icing on the cake.
Frenchy hitting the deck was the day our season died in the arse.

the collingwood game was the start of the end .. we lost it from a winning position

without much of a fight, lost scotland and campo .. and the winning run came to an end .. and the slide began

time to write a different story

.. go blues..

We did play well over the Wiz Cup last year, the final against the Eagles was a top game from start to finish. Skills were fantastic, and pressure was full on for 4 quarters, actually not full 4, we did let them back in the game in the last quarter but then rallied again to win.

I agree with Jarusa. The first quarter of that Richmond game was the end of the season. They got clearance after clearance from the middle and nothinng that Pagan, French or Koutoufides could do would reverse it. Many players were beaten and they seemed to not know how to dig ourselves out of it.

I disagree on Collingwood. I think we should have won that game, but gave it up in the second half when Tarrant could not be stopped.

15.1 in second half of footy is going to be hard to overcome.

i agree the richmond games is where it all went pear shaped.

I heard the second series of "Lost" is based around Carlton's 2005 Wizard Cup campaign... Jack and Locke climb down the tunnel and find tapes of all our games.

Think about it. The mystery numbers on Lost

4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42

4 - Livo.... got injured
8 - Whitnall.... everything's his fault
15 - Teague .... lost form after Livo/T-bird were injured and asked to play tall
16 - CAMPO!!!! ... see Whitnall
23 - Hartlett ..... Long-term injury after not much time in the 2s!!
42 - No one!

IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!!!!

Yep.

The final quarter of Rd 2 was fun to watch - we still looked good (and it didn't hurt to see Scotty Lucas going ballistic at the umpire) :-D

In retrospect, the second Prender fell across Thornton's knee was a shot in the stomach
Livo's injury was a surgery mistake
The Richmond game was the guillotine

Losing Bananaby was crucial....we all knew we were in trouble if he went down; and we were right.
