I still remember the day 25 or so years ago when I was the lone Carlton voice in a bay of Swans at the SCG, I'd been getting laughs for my self-effacing noisy banter all day (we were getting absolutely slaughtered), but then when Plugger was lining up to kick I blurted out "you fat cauliflower!" which got me a lot of dirty looks and undid all my good work... I apologised immediately and was very embarrassed, it just slipped out I swear! But you go to a Premier League match and you'd have six year olds screaming stuff like that all game.

Yeah, we’re a million miles off the premier league. Still have to cover up your colours until you’re in the ground at a lot of away games

First roundball game I ever went to was 1997 in Rome - Lazio vs. Udinese. I wasn't into football at the time but thought it'd be an interesting cultural experience. Went on my own, 20 years old, sat amongst the home fans and generously applauded the good play from both teams. Tried to sing along to the home chants, no @#$%&! idea what they were saying but I'm sure it was all above board :). Udinese won 2-1, but no one seemed to mind me clapping like an idiot. On the way back to the train station though, I quickly learned that football fans tend to drive their Vespas wherever and however they want when their team has just lost. Good thing I wasn't constantly plugged in to headphones back then!

Anyway, I was young and naive, and would probably proceed with more caution these days, but it was a pretty good experience overall. Although having learned more about Lazio fans over the years, maybe I just had the right skin colour!

Unbelievable.

It's idiots like this that make me not want to take my daughter to the footy when she's old enough. I'd hate for her to have to experience something like that.

I'd also hate to have to cop an assault charge for smacking the shit out of the bastard that did it.

Watching the replay I noticed a few things not easily picked up whilst sitting on Level 1 at the ground:

- Cincotta was immense in defence, he doesn't get the ball much but it's what he does off the ball that makes him a starter every week
- Hewett really hard at it in the guts
- Jack Martin will be a huge loss this week, he's just so hard and skilful
- Cottrell's run is so valuable, can't believe we debate whether to drop him on here sometimes. One of the first on the team sheet
- H's miss wasn't as much of a deflator as I thought at the time, we still dominated for a good 3-4 mins later with no reward, the Swans are just a tough, proud club who kept coming
- Nerves were aplenty, hopefully they go in Friday night knowing what to expect now

I don't like that the day after a big finals win, with people here from around the country, the club shop and Cafe are closed.

Bit of a lost opportunity

Yep. I'm planning to do Parkville parkrun on Saturday morning. I don't think the shop is open o a Saturday morning???

I think the club has a specific merchandise tent/store at the game Camel (limited range I know), but I suspect it is more lucrative and soaks up the staff's time, thus why the PP one isn't open?

Go Blues

I was on Level 1, and you do miss a lot of the patterns, zoning, general positioning.
Yeah you get to see the individual contests close up, but miss a lot.

I sat up on Level 4 against GWS out of choice and hadn't been there before.
It really isnt as bad for me as it is for some. Great perspective, and with screen in your face pretty good.

I didnt think Harry stuffed up our momentum, for the reasons you gave. He did stuff up a potential 35 point lead and the energy the roar of the crowd would generate.

I thought the backline was a bit loose, and put that down to nerves. Watching them look around and fill holes instead of shoulder to shoulder.

I'm sure the boys nerves will be better for it next game.

I don't necessarily want to buy anything, it's more about the opportunity to get inside the ground and have a bit of a sticky beak. Last time I was there was 2014.

Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of what Young did last year, and I'm still bullish on his future. But FMD, you'd have to have rocks in your head to pick him over Machy at the moment.

I feel for H. Poor bloke's confidence is completely shot. I reckon he could benefit from a spell down back next year, just to take his mind off kicking goals for a while, and enjoy playing footy again.

Selection is going to be interesting next week!

i reckon Mel Robbins “5, 4, 3, 2, 1 “ mental habit could work wonders for Big H. clearly he’s a serious guy and takes his responsibilities seriously and is just feeling like the world is on his shoulders. that’s the issue. think and feeling. the 5,4,3,2,1 method is a way to develop a habit to screen out the negative influence of feelings and throughs in critical moments.

short of that a silent meditation retreat to understand the nature of the subconscious mind and the tricks tit plays on us all. but that’s probably a bridge to far for most footballers.

Re: Marchbank. Absolutely. Rapt what he and Kemp have done to our back half.

our recruiting has been so f ing good lately. i never would have believed Acres would teach the heights he has. was given BOG in some of the award rankings against swans.

kemp a ripper, can see him playing anywhere down the spine in the future. marche finally gets some physiological luck and good management, he’ll continue to grow in confidence and touch as he goes. and i think MC and Vossy knew that keeping him in. Young was good in a pinch but different kind of KP player. his best is good enough and he helped us when we were down but not mature enough and infallible enough yet.

speaking of backs, is weiters contractually obliged to never punch in the goal square and always attempt to mark from behind? i guess you can’t fault the guy now he’s dominating the D50.

Melbourne has been painted Navy Blue

I’ve been to a lot of great Carlton games at the G, including Premierships, at Princes Park after a Flag, but last night was out of the box.

There’s something unique about Carltonians and the noise they bring. Spine tingling stuff.

Repeating the song a 4th time at the ground I have never experienced before. Why did it happen? It’s the best club song in the country. Swans fans were singing it. Melbourne is alive and vibrant againagain

Anyone seen that Billboard of a sign in Finch st Malvern? FMD unreal.

Last night the train doors couldn’t close because of the ecstatic crowd. Hilarious.

How good is it being a bagger!!!!

Plane landed at 6.40. Put the siren on the roof and powered to the G. Tuned into SEN Carlton bias fkn hilarious. Pisser. Siren went and and we were running. The roar of the crowd was amazing and thought you can’t top that noise. Got to Gate 5 and Doc kicks the goal. What was it like inside? It was huge, double the noise of the bounce.

Then we get in and the joint is wall to wall Navy Blue.

My sons had never been to a Carlton winning Final. My youngest who’s in the Swans Academy hadn’t seen Carlton win since the Crows game at the G in 2014. Can you imagine the feeling they experienced when the Final siren sounded?

Hugging people we didn’t know. High fives. Mates with us. Singing with gusto till hoarse.

Finally the win they longed for. It came and it came in a big way. They are so proud.

Texts coming from Swans fans we hadn’t seen or heard from up to 10 years congratulating us for our loyalty with pride and a deserved win against the more experienced team.

We love being a Bluebagger. It’s something really special:

Richest history
Best jumper
Best song

Da da dada
Da da dada

Wearing our jumpers all night , on the streets, in bed, all day and on the plane back to Sydney and we will strut with them on proudly with sauce stains and all

gréât moments with your sons. what it’s all about. let the very surprising, rich vein of form continue for baggers. Lions at Gabba are the biggest obstacle on our side of the draw if you ask me. but one game at a time…

Marchbank was fantastic

Those ‘fumbly’ moments early were more than that if you had a good look. Right from the get go the Swans fooled us and played their overlap game. Poor Marchy had to beat 2 players twice. No one around to help out. Fumbly? Nah he couldn’t take possession 2 on one. He halved the contest. He was smart and competitive.

He got better and better as the game progressed. Great to see him finally to see his game catch up to the tempo of Finals footy let alone H&A. From there he flourished like a supremely gifted athlete would.

If you didn’t notice the above you must have seen his game build as it progressed. At the very least. If not Imo you didn’t want to.

I thought Marchbank was our best tall in the backline. Very disappointed in Gov. He’s flashy but very loose and miss timed many marking attempts. Kemp is only 22yo and this experience will be unbelievable for his development but he made his customary mistakes, Weiters was tough and hard at it but his timing was a bit out and 2 nd to a couple contests he would usually spoil.

Haven’t read the thread yet. Will do tomorrow. Anyone want to have a go at Marchbank is not looking at what he does for the team and see what they want to see and post what they want to see.

As mentioned before, Vossy loves Marchy, as do all his team mates because he puts his body on the line, moves incredibly well for a big man and is a great mark. If he doesn’t break down before season is out he will not be delisted as some posters say ad nauseum.

Marchbank’s critics in the past have only been a handful of Carlton supporters. You get that. I’m expecting the read those same posters continue their blinkered view and I will just have to have the last laugh, just like Marchy will. I will just ignore the ignorance.

Next, I will comment on the great contribution in the game of players who are similarly targeted by posters like Marchy…Pitto, Cottrell, Acres and Harry well done lads

well said.

I thought the Swans played their best footy for the year despite them winning nearly all their games in the last 2 months.

Great coaching by Longmire. They got their short game going to create the overlapping and run but our defence held up with huge support from mids and at times in the end by forwards as well.

The Swans were throwing everything at us and without a making outlet when Harry went down it was a case of holding our lead and kick to a congested wing to create another contest.

We were the better team

We fking won !!!

i wish we could do those dinky sideways kicks from 55 meters out to an unmarked goal kicker like they do. too often we kick a floater deep into the pocket as if maintaining forward territory is the main strategy.

How can anyone have a best 22 missing Cottrell other than trying to fit in a fave into their fave team which then makes it a fave team rather than a best 22 team

I hope last night Cotts earned some respect from his detractors

He’s a machine with footy smarts and he’s a footballer with amazing athletic attributes. He’s got mongrel and he really deliberately hurt a few Swans.

vossy loves him. he’s more defensive than in his first seasons and he gets really tough assignments from coaches bc they know he can be relied on to do the job and hurt them the other way if he gets lucky bc he has such good goal square awareness this season. that one where he ripped the ball off swans and kicked high over the attempted spoiler was first class forward craft.

Pity about his 2 shots at goal.

He’s not toblame for Swans surge. He was responsible for his kicking. I think he was involved in half a dozen scores before he got knocked out in unusual circumstances.

agree his early goal assists got us rolling and his marking was good. disagree about momentum shift. lots of people at the ground are testifying to it. fortunately we’re resilient enough to withstand. and swans were always going to come. Grand finalists don’t just melt away in second half.
