Feel the same. I think it's pretty important that we don't overreact to the loss, & I don't think we will.

We won't sack Voss and I don't want to sack Voss...however my optics and my hearing of supporters and the media tell me very strongly that Voss needs to take significant blame, not necessarily for the loss, as we were underdogs, but the manner in which we lost and whether more conventional* decisions should've been made by our coaches

* I've used the word 'conventional' to soften the language.

My personal opinion was that decisions made were bordering on reckless and mind-boggling, with the idea of "nothing to lose" creepng closer to russian roulette

PS. I read somewhere that Zorko got 10 coaches votes?

Fair points.

Here's something I heard in a conversation elsewhere - Adam Simpson. What's he up to? Would he be interested in a role advising Voss?

Or would he be too senior & would that rock the boat?

simpson would be perfect imo. has much to offer, but can do so in a way where there's no heat and pressure.

this is a pretty good read. you could argue against a few points for sure ... but the crux of the argument here is pretty damning and hard to ignore. the team selection was wrong on saturday night, full stop.

but also our use of the bench in 2024, and the lack of tactical awareness we consider to that position. and also, how much CAP we have invested into top line talent, which leaves our bottom 6 not quite up to it.

so, maybe a better distribution of our cap and coaching changes are needed?

imo, we have to improve our woeful stoppage defense, and overall team defense if we're any chance in 2025. i'd be firing at least one coach and brining in a new voice & coaching perspective as a minimum.

https://themongrelpunt.com/afl-season-2024/2024/09/09/the-elimination-final-post-mortem-why-carlton-are-in-for-a-world-of-hurt/?fbclid=IwY2xjawFNsVtleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHW1giMN6aoJvJ0qGifA76pddPmKYvKRcHR3Eu20Vci5BCBXAMjjvTMXY9g_aem_RCIQEOXSnYZVjhPtt-Fp-w

The distribution of our cap could be aided by developing and playing kids so that they take onfield spots and some of the also rans are forced to move to other clubs to get a game.

Our development is horrible

Top 100 contracts in the AFL.

Goes to show big contracts are a part of the AFL landscape.

Carlton don't have an extraordinary number of contracts over $600K compared to other teams.

It is very obvious many of our stars have taken pay cuts to enable them to play together in the hope they win a flag, when you compare the top salaries paid by other clubs.

Next year TDK and Weitering are the big contracts coming up for renewal.

This thought crossed my mind too, especially after Simpson was on 360 and seemed open to working in footy again.

They didn't clarify if it was in any role or only as a senior coach and he also said he wanted some time away from the game. He seems like a good person/asset to have around your footy club though.

So in theory, Simpson, or someone like him, could be good. But do we have someone in a similar role above Voss already?

Also it could be/would likely be perceived by the media/pundits as a direct threat to Voss.

Simpson won’t tolerate any chickens on the playing list, that’s for sure.

not simpson's fault, imo. their injuries and drafting and development makes us look like worldbeaters.

his 2018 flag was one of the best coaching performances i've seen in my life. that whole finals series he took a beat up west coast to the GF. believed in his system and gave the guys left on the field the belief they could roll anyone. and they did.

beating pies in that gf ... that almost felt like we won. haha
