Was round 22 1987 the last time a kick after the final siren went our way?

Since then, we had Capper in 89, Ben Dixon Peter Burgoyne and now Gray kick goals after the siren leading us to lose. Have a feeling there may be others too.
Also had Sticks miss everything after the siren in 93.

Overall I can't fault our effort. Apart from Harry that is, he shouldn't get out marked the way he was in the last quarter.

Umpires had an influence, if people can't see that it's not my concern.

I thought Weitering, Gibbons, Walsh and Plowman were our best.

The future is bright, no excuses not to play finals (plural).

Let's get to Perth where we have great support!

Doesn’t matter where we play or how much support is at the ground, the umps just don’t like navy blue with a white monogram

Robbie Warnock against Geelong a few years ago. Was that after the siren? Can't recall

Yeah the one he missed. Remember that vividly. Very few times I’ve been that angry after a game

Did Fev miss one after the siren against Hawthorn in 08?

We BUTCHERED the ball so much in Q2 qnd Q3 transitioning from def to a) our half of the ground, b) fwd 50 and c) top of the square

That is the single biggest reason we lost. The first real target we hit with precision was on the 3QT siren (SPS with his left foot to Martin)

Also, fwds played dumb footy allowing Port defenders to cluster around Mckay and Casboult rather than spread them out

Really annoyed because I'm not confident at all that we will beat the Kangas...they'll puff their f#$%8 chests out next week and ragdoll us...wait and see...even without Ziebell and Zurhaar

We got one our way in 1993 in Perth when Mainwaring hit the post after the siren from the boundary.

Yeah we were unlucky not to win but in the end Port deserved it really. I felt they were on top of the contest for longer periods and we couldn’t hold it together when it mattered. From close games now we’ve won two and lost two. Personally I’m very happy the wins came against Geelong and the scum.

Hopefully we learn a lot from this loss and hopefully they come out breathing fire against North

Agreed...thats why I don't look at the umps, the casboult miss, the last 40s, Cunningham etc

With cleaner transitioning, I think we'd be seeing a 1-3 goal win by the Blues (that's factoring in things like momentum and scoreboard pressure)

I don't think i've been so disappointed in ages. I think it's because we are now a good side thus hurts our chances. The performance will please me later in the week in that again we have shown we can match it with the very best, just not now as it's a costly loss. If we were 17th I wouldn't have cared so much. Needed composure at the end. Suppose that's part of the journey, the maturing process as a side.

Wonder how this loss and shit losses like against Melbourne will hurt us at the business end of the year.

Same. I feel so disappointed. Really low. Maybe I got too high after the win against the Bullies.
Who used talk about not getting too high and not getting too low? :smoking:

Heartbreaker.

We screamed as hard as we could, shook Dixon off 3 goals. If he’d had the kick after the siren at that end, I guarantee we’d have made him choke.

We pushed first on the ladder til after the siren and were definitely the better team for most of the match, another tough lesson but proof we’re on the rise. Nothing less than a complete demolition of Norf next week will appease.

On the plus side as a QLD supporter I get to see Carlton for 3 weeks in a row next week, unheard of! On an even bigger plus side, my girlfriend saw her very first AFL game today and safe to say she is a convert. And as we all know, everyone looks better in navy blue :smoking:

So much to like, so much to curse.

In years past we'd have folded twice in that first half, midway through both quarters. Signs of maturity.

I felt Port should have put us away with 3 or 4 mins left. They didn't, and we let them off the hook with some poor decision making. Signs of immaturity.

All in all, a cracking effort. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Onwards and upwards. The test is how we respond next week.

We'd have done the same if Betts, for example, kicked a goal after the siren to win the game.

Heat of the moment thing, perfectly acceptable under the circumstances.

We had our chances to win, so did they.

I know we need to move on from the honourable loss stuff, but that's as an acceptable honourable loss as you can have I reckon. Plenty to learn from and improve on, but also plenty of positives to build on.

Great game yes lost the game but good effort and we are improving
Last 10 mins lost composure structure and bad start
However a team performance that would have beaten a number of other teams
Playing a good brand of football
Pressure packed game against good opposition
Weitering Newnes Gibbons Plowman docherty Cripps SPS Walsh all good
Down this week Jones Pittonet Cunningham Levi Gov
Eddie started well faded a bit
Kennedy and Setters almost games
Boys will learn a lot from the game
Must destroy North next week
