What I would like to see
Pittonet and De Koning to play ahead of Kreuzer
Gibbons to play on ball much more

Docherty to play on ball

SOJ to tag Martin not to play half forward
Philip plays

Tigers will obviously put a lot of time into Cripps and Walsh, so the other mids need to step up if we're to be competitive.

Tigers, like Eagles and Cats usually focus on their game and don't tag.

Will be interesting if they do.

Martin and Cripps have spent periods of the game playing on each other in the past.

Curnow to tag all game for me, but I don't think he matches well with Martin.
If Ed doesn't tag Martin, then the bigger bodied tagger we have is Jack on Martin.

Assuming Plowman comes up, I predict:

Simmo Jones Plowman
Doc Weitering Newman
Setterfield Cripps Walsh
Martin Casboult Dow
Betts McGovern Fisher

Kreuzer E Curnow Murphy

Inter: Gibbons, Newnes, SOJ, SPS.

The only change from our 22 in the first half on Sunday night is SPS in for Marchbank (inj).

On paper, a reasonable team. On form, the Tigers will murder us.

Looking at what we have in reserve, we desperately need the likes of Cunners, LOB, Lang & Kennedy to step up and put pressure on the likes of Newnes, Gibbons & SOJ.

We also need TDK to stay healthy and build up his game in the VFL in case Kreuzer, McGovern or Casboult struggle for form/fitness. Who knows when Harry and Charlie will be available again.

Happy to be patient with our 1st & 2nd year players, but it would be a bonus if players such as Stocker or Philp push for selection early.

Yep, this is spot on. Generally we need our 23 and under players to step up this year if we’re to rise up the ladder. It’s time for some of these guys to actually go past their senior peers otherwise we’ll struggle. SPS and/or Willo need to go past Simmo and Newman. Fisher and/or O’Brien need to go past Newnes. Dow and Setters need to cement themselves in the middle. TDK needs to knock down the selection door. I know all of that won’t happen but the more it does happen, the better we will go this year.

Currently Walshy and Weiters appear to be the only A-graders from the rebuild group. Harry could get there with a big year, although not a great start with his injury. Charlie is a special case because he’s shown he can be an A-grader but the question is whether his body will actually allow him to have the career we all hope for him. The time is now for some of these others to perform and bolster this group.

Just heard news from an employee at the club who watched the Reserves game on Sunday:

SPS played 70% and was the stand out. He makes time stop. Kicked a long goal. Efficiency great.
Williamson was equal best. Played HBF. Great runner Lasted whole game. Efficient.
LOB also played a good game on the wing. His kicking really is a weapon.

Honey good.
Sad to say but Cunners did a few good things, kicking a goal but was disappointing for a player in his 5th year and a round 1 spot beckons.

Any staff member with the slightest cold, sneeze, head cold not welcome and asked to stay home.

Not sure if Marchbank's knee knocked is good enough to play. Plow good to go.

Here's my first 18 for round 1:

B: Simpson Jones Plowman
HB: Docherty Weitering Newman

C: Fisher Cripps Murphy
F: Kreuzer Ed Walsh

HF: Martin Casboult SPS
F: McGovern JSOS Betts

Newman because I think MC will give him first go before Willo, but I prefer Willo
Kreuzer is the only ruckman who can play up to 90% game time, and we need all the heart we can get for this game.
With Harry and Charlie out, we need Levi as the main target who can mark or create crumbs for Martin, Betts, SPS and Gibbons
Gov isn't 100% match fit, but has caught up and completed his training blocks and I expect Russell to allow him to freshen up for the round 1 clash.
SPS is in because he played well in the reserves, and his poise and class by hand and foot is needed against the kamikase Tigers.

INTERCHANGE:

Wildcard I would go with TDK ahead of Newnes to provide a chop out for Kreuzer instead of Levi, plus to have FF minutes to either mark or bring the ball down to crumbers.
He can't play 120 minutes but can provide x factor and be a head ache when he and Levi are forward, and to mix up the ruck.

Newnes looks like he will get the nod, for his running ability on the G, more than anything else. Not my first pick.
Gibbons played mainly forward last week but his engine will be needed up and down the wing on the G
Setters has enjoyed a great preseason and despite ok numbers his efficiency has raised questions. He will improve on last weeks 56% DE.
Dow is another who has had a good preseason and the MC seem to have shown faith in him to have cameos in the midfield group.

We will need to mix it up in the midfield to keep legs fresh.
I expect Cripps to be 80% mid 10% forward
I expect Ed to tag Martin, and maybe Plow takes him when forward...or JSOS to run with him all game...if so, I want TDK in.
Murphy to play wing mostly to provide the foot pass forward after a receive from mids.

LOB, Willo pushing for Newnes and Newman, and imo are on par with the 2 N's, and will pass them soon. Gibbo, Dow, Setters, Fish need to perform well to keep their spots too.

Marchbank and Harry to miss this week due to fitness.

Cuningham fallen back in the pecking order. Honey and Philp may pass him if he doesn't show huge improvement in reserves. I'm a Cunners fan but it seems he needs to prove he's an AFL player to the MC.

I expect Cripps to play the whole game.

Might be our only game for the season before the whole thing gets shut down.

I suspect the AFL will take the decision away from fans. And if so, the sooner they announce it the better so we can deal with and get ready to watch.

Assuming the season isn't postponed, which must also be a scenario being discussed you'd think.

Here is the team I think they will select.

B: Newman, Jones, Simpson
HB: Doc, Weitering, Plowman
C: Setterfield, Cripps, SPS
HF: Martin, Casboult, Fisher
F: Betts, McGovern, Silvagni

R: Kreuzer, Walsh, Murphy

I: Newnes, Curnow, Dow, Williamson

This is on the proviso that the game actually goes ahead.

The NBA have just suspended their season.

I've got flights/accomm booked for the North game over the ANZAC weekend.

Fingers crossed.

This attendance thing is interesting.

I wanted to go but the family voted no. So it is the TV.

I'm out too.

Will it? Wont it?
Can't stand thinking about it.

...and I'm confident of a good showing and a possible win.
