Yup spoke well re De Luca’s opportunity , David has an interesting personality unobtrusive slightly laconic but seems to interact well with players has their respect.
This opportunity to be interim coach has been a true revelation.
I liked his approach so far, will be interesting to see tactical skills and team’s dedication, determination to win when we meet the difficult squad of Crows, Eagles, Tigers and Cats.

if we win all four of those, they should knight him. but if we put in a good showing, and possibly pinch a game or two - adelaide and bitchmond are possible, then surely he should get the gig

eve 4 close losses should give hima good chance. four thumpings, however, and one would think he would get overlooked

i like him, and would be happy to have him coach over lyon, scott, voss and roos

I agree that this GC game is very important re Teague's chances of getting the gig full time.
But, history tells us Ratts had 6 games left to navigate when he took over from Denis.
Didn't win any !!!
But still got the gig at season's end.
Where that points now to IHNFI.
But as I'm now in the Teague camp I hope like hell we win this.

Wasn’t Ratts measured on ‘losing’ to get the job and a high draft pick? ;-)

Yeah, you're right, I forgot about that....Doh

I think we've probably seen enough to say Teague will be a good senior coach, maybe even a very good senior coach.
So for him to get our gig, in my view, wouldn't be buying a pig in a poke, I reckon he would do the job admirably.
But, Carlton wouldn't be the only club assessing him. Other clubs will be looking for a new coach in the future. Melbourne springs to mind.
If we don't appoint him and he goes elsewhere and rips it up, it would be opportunity lost for the Blues.
Again !

Ratts says hi, from memory we sacked him after an 11/11 season. Don't disregard

Judging a coach from outside a club is risky business. What measure do we use? Win/loss? Is that really a reliable measure from a sample of 5 games?

Do any of us know how much of our recent onfield improvement is because of Teague? Maybe a lot, or maybe sacking Bolts was simply the circuit breaker our talented players needed to change their mindset? Can any of us point to a reason why we would not have had the same success (well, relative success) if, say, Dale Amos had been appointed caretaker?

Should we judge Teague by his media performances? How a coach ‘sells’ the club’s messages is important, but how much weight do we give it in determining who our next senior coach should be?

We hear the players want him to stay on. How much weight do we give that? What else would you expect them to say about their current coach? Didn’t they tell us a couple of years ago how great Bolts is? Should players really have much say in who the coach is?

I’m by no means anti-Teague; in fact, I like him. I hope we finish the year strongly and he is appointed after a rigorous and competitive process from a pool of outstanding candidates. But some of you are latching onto him very quickly, based on limited information.

Whether we like it or not, the people making the decision have access to a lot more information regarding the candidates, our players and the inside workings of an AFL club in 2019. We really have no choice but to trust in the process.

I think we can agree who we don't want and I actually believe the club would be aware of the "mood" of the supporter base, particularly when it comes to someone like Lyon.

Yeah I'm being wishful

If Clarkson is out of the question it's Ratts, Teague....... Daylight Voss.

Spot on abns. I've been critical of the decision makers, but it's not just about footy. The club has already seen the effect a senior coaching position can have on a relatively young man with a young family. Ratts was 36 when he took the reigns. Had a young family and it took him a long time to find a balance. Teague is 38. He has a very young family and has to make sure that this will work for them as much as it will work for him.

I think that decision has already been conveyed to the club, as they have to give the assistant coaches an idea of what the clubs intentions are for 2020 by August 1. If Teague gets the gig, expect the bulk of the assistants to stay.

That said, I have a hard time believing they've given up hope of getting Clarkson.

Heard Michael Gibbons speak today (very well too). Very grateful to Bolts for the chance and commented maybe his journey resonated with Bolts.
Found Bolts departure a bit of a shock but got no sense he wasn't happy with the new situation.

Exactly...!
This is the big question imo. This is where the board has to earn their keep.

How much of it is due to Teague, and how much of it is due to a fresh start?

The fans are rightly happy notching some wins on the board... But can Teague win us a flag?
Board needs to think in long term interests of club...

I would love it if they seek out some insights from coaching selection panels who have managed to hit home runs... Clarkson and Adam Simpson were great selections imo.
Adelaide hasn't fared too badly either with past two selections.

That's Chris Judd's responsibility. Bit out of his depth I'm afraid...

He was a great player but there's just some elements of his character that don't sit well with me.

I remember during his playing days he always used to make a point about how footy is nothing and it won't be a part of his life once he finished, and yet here he is with multiple fingers in the pie.

Champion player and an on field legend but he's becoming like Kernahan mk.2 off field.

It will be interesting to see where this discussion goes over the next 5 weeks
we have about as tough a run as you can get leading to the end of the year and could lose them all
will Teague still be the front runner if this happens .
for his sake I hope we win a few more because he appears to be doing everything right thus far

No hidden messages from Clarkson in here while he's giving Ratts a pat on the back…

Alastair Clarkson endorses Brett Ratten to return to senior coaching ranks
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... adc9df7552

Quote:
“He’s been ready to coach ever since he left Carlton, really,” Hawthorn coach Clarkson said on SEN.

“He should have never been out of it. But that’s the brutal nature of our game.

“I just hope he gets another opportunity because he’s a great footy brain, a great footy person and a great fella to boot. And he made a great contribution to our club.”
