Why don't we just get Jimmae to do it?

Imagine our board trying to read jim's 2047 page summary of his recommendations.

I know Dunstall was credited with finding Clarkson, but I doubt he'd really want to or have time to do it.

Is it appropriate for someone from AFL House to be involved?

I'd have a 5 member panel. The names are just names, the point is more about their background.

Mark Evans - AFL involvement
Jude Bolton - recently retired player
Robert Walls - Former Club player and Coach (this could be any former AFL coach, someone like Rodney Eade)
Steven Trigg (Andrew McKay) - club representative
Independent Person - someone from business with a background in recruiting and managing staff, leadership etc.

SOS needs to be on the selection committee. He and the new coach have to be on the same page about what constitutes a good list in terms of characteristics and demographics. Anyone else from the club can be involved in the the latter stages of the process when it comes to the shortlist..
Others for the list should have had experience at selection process. Not Lyon or Darcy as they're both fools.
Dunstall would be good. Walls has put his hand up and loves the club. He picked Lyon and I trust his motives.
Like the suggestion of a recently retired player. "On field general" type.
Ange P. would certainly give the group a different perspective.
Take as long as we need. There is no rush.
p.s. Glad to hear a national recruiting manager is coming.
This is our chance to finally get it right.
Hopefully all of this is accompanied by changes to the board.

The one thing the Hawks did was that they didn't make a decision until they had seen the presentation by all the applicants. Let them all pull the club and team apart and assess the list and provide a blue print for going forward. They also had two people on the panel with a good football brain who asked the right questions and were not blinded by flashy presentations and coach speak. The final group were then asked to address the board.

If we went through this process at least it would give our board an understanding of what has to happen and what needs to be done. Pity we already have someone in mind for the coaching role.

Amazonstud, we don't have someone in mind do we? Name them so the media will get hold of it to call the board out.

The board promised they don't have pre conceived ideas and will go through an independent process.

At least the available recent Premiership coaches have ruled themselves out.

A big  for those supporting Ange Postecoglou to be involved...

The AFL is close to finalising between eight and 10 successful applicants for its Level 4 AFL senior coach course, which will prepare assistant coaches for the demands of the top job before they apply.

The first influx of coaches to complete the course have been hand-picked by five separate panels that included Postecoglou, who led the national soccer team to glory in this year’s AFC Asian Cup.

Cronieism.

I reckon he also tricked us into signing Levi for the term and amount we did. He said if we didn't, there'd be clubs "lining up" for him. We took the bait. LOL.

Surely we can find competent people who understand modern football, without paying (ex)rivals to lead us up the garden path.

Absolutely agree - get Ange Postecoglou involved.

An understanding of man management and communication is as (if not more) important than a "footy" mind.

This is a bit of a joke isnt it?

We dont have the skillset and experience at the club to select a coach? Or is because the board want to give all accountability to some one external? Outsourcing the risk of failure. This is a bit embarrassing.

Is this because we don't have an interview process at the club? No key selection criteria templates or grading process :)

Worsfold and bomber not interested. Dew has 90% chance of landing the job depending on his powerpoint presentation. Waste of time.

Dermie isn't a croney of Malthouse. He has no ties, in fact was coached by Malthouse in one exhibition game. That's as close as they got in a formal sense during their careers. Dermie simply believed (s??) that Mick is/was an excellent coach who would be good for any side. He wouldn't be alone in that view either.

As I said - Dermie is a wanker of the absolute highest order, but that doesn't mean he isn't as knowledgeable as anyone as to how the game is and should be played.

:thanks: It was a brainwave I had. Synbad and I have often talked about getting someone like Guus Hiddink as a coach, given what the role of a modern coach has become.

Given that Ange satisfies the following criteria:

- Is xtremely intelligent
- Is an elite sports coach, albeit in a different sport
- Does actually know and understand AFL footy, albeit from a supporters POV
- Is outside the "bubble"
- Is a passionate Carlton man

To me, he's the first one picked on the committee.

Second is one of Walls and Parkin, who both satisfy the following criteria

- Extremely intelligent
- Have been elite AFL (premiership winning) players and coaches
- Are now outside the "bubble"
- Understand the workings and unique environment of the Carlton Footy Club
- Are Carlton people (at least one of whom is passionate.. )

And third is someone like Maxwell

- Extremely intelligent
- Has been a premiership captain
- Just out of the game (a year or so), so understands modern footy
- A good non-Carlton perspective
- Hasn't yet proved his credentials to the wider community, so will be keen to do it properly and well and be seen to be impartial (read "not Collingwood")

That's my 3 cents worth!

Why? How have their other appointments gone?
Of course they have no confidence in themselves and are outsourcing the responsibility to others.
We have been doing that for quite a while.. We have been outsourcing to the magpies for years because we believe we do not have the answers they look like they do.
See? You have no analytical thought on where this club is at.

Hehe. So, after bitching and moaning for two and a half years, Goltzy wants us to get another Malthouse.

Damn right we don't have the skillset and experience at the club to select a coach.

We have just enough skillset and experience to do up our shoelaces and not dribble too much when we eat. Have you been hiding under a rock or something these past 15 years????
