Yeah but who was assigned in charge of developing our team defence?

Barker, Wiley, MM, Green or Laidley? You'd hope it wasn't Barker because there basically wasn't a team defence system. We were playing a 1990s style 1v1 game.

every assistant was under mickys directive
hopefully now they are of clear mind and can concentrate on their own job and they don't have mickys contract discussions distracting them
I wish him all the best and hope he at least gives the players a chance to regain some enthusiasm and instinctive touch

younger players like watson, graham, whiley, buckley and so on need some confidence, reassurance and game time

Other teams have a specific coach so they can pool resources and knowledge and give the players someone to tap on the shoulder for advice. Who was our guy?

Barker was and still is the defensive coach, based on articles published yesterday.

Yup he's the line coach, I'm talking about the overall team defensive structure.

GWS have Mark McVeigh as their 'defensive coach', while Cornes is the line coach for the defence.

The Lions have three strategy coaches: offensive, defensive and stoppage, with line coaches that also juggle skill coaching roles that are overseen by a skill development manager.

Our coaching structure looks outdated compared to those teams and quite a few others.

I think he's fine with it as long as there is a reference to the board getting the arse somewhere in the post.

I see.

Of course our coaching structure looks outdated.

Our whole club looks outdated.

We were up on the trends prior to 2012, we don't seem to have followed through as a football department while MM has been around.

Yeah because you don't know yet.. You're guessing... Except jim!
I'll go with Barker as interim coach." Won't cost is significantly more " according to the buffoon!

And I'm hoping like hell he can succeed

I prefer not to leave such things to hope and chance Synners; I want a clearly identified process from top to bottom that can be shown to the members to send a message that we want things at this club to improve and improve quickly.

Fish, head, cancer, etc

You want a process for the caretaker job where we leave no stone unturned...?
But also happy with Mark's performances?
There is something extreme in your bi polar thoughts mate!
Why would you go the full hog to work out if John Barker is an the best caretaker coach in the country and not put the president under scrutiny for his litany of errors?

Look I'll let you think about things a bit.. When I return to you I expect more common sense less Google jargon.
OK?

But good sides don't talk about rebuild round 2.
They build all the time. You're supposed to be constantly evolving and tuning your list..
I think that's the point..
If Barker says anything else he would be barking mad and taken out the back and shot!
Round 2 rebuild means stop the press were getting off here..! 66 games.. But we're not telling you what happens 67th game..

The real reason the buffoon announced a rebuild was to take pressure off the board and give it time and space
And so he can introduce to us the next Messiah that he himself brought to the club... Sos.

What he did isn't sport and no professional player or coach with any competitive bone in his body can cop that kind of deflecting .

Close this thread now.

It is irrelevant.

Who else was available for the caretaker job?

If he's not the right man for the job, he'll go at season's end

He's obviously interested in developing himself as a coach...Level 4...I'll give him credit for that
He's probably costing us $100k

If he was such a poor line coach, the rumours about his incompetence or issues with MM would have come out. My guess is that MM was a control freak and only allowed line coaches to do their job under his hovering and non-negotiable parameters. The assistants are all yes-men puppets under Mick.

Just like I've done for Pagan, Ratten and Mick, I will give JB a go and reserve my judgement at a later date. Good luck Barks! At the very least, you can tell your grand kids that you were entrusted with the priviledge of coaching an AFL team.

PS. I'll never forget Stephen Quartermain's comments during sport in late 2004 when Clarkson was announced as Hawks coach. On air...yes, on air, he made a comment like, "this club has no idea"
Who would've thought that sniping little turd would turn out to be one of the best coaches of the last 30 years.
