.... you listen.

The reference at the start refers to Tim Lane who appeared on a video clip from 1985 where his distinct 'tache made him look like an adult movie star.

The CLUB should ENFORCE that the players attend all of these functions....

Great speech by Big Nick, if our players love the club half as much as he does, then we're in good hands as supporters.

Loop 5:07 to 5:18, and play it when we run out this Monday.

I agree clubs with OUR history and past players around the club such as Big Nick, Sticks, Braddles, Southby etc etc should be making it compulsory for the squad to attend. A day with these guys at functions like this will be of far better value then a day at the training track.

Do players actually "love" the club in these times?

That is a good question and conversley do clubs "love" players these times. I think some still do and some don't but as time goes on less will and more won't. Being an AFL footballer is a profession these days, kids accept that they can be placed anywhere around the country and have very little control as to where they end up.
Playing footy is a job and in the near future we will see more movement and less loyalty with free agency. Our captain left his club to come home so who would begrudge any of our interstaters wanting to do the same?

Unfortunately last year was the first time the playing squad did not attend this luncheon. There was a clash with something the football department required the players to do at the time.

We were dissapointed that this occured so the Spirit of Carlton and the Club worked together in the off season to ensure that the event will be held this year at a time when the players will be available.

Big Nick mentions that when he was at the club the past players were there all the time. This aspect had recently been lost somewhat which was to the detriment of the club. In a way the past players act as cultural mentors, they pass down the playing culture of the club from one generation to the next. The more interaction there is between past players and the current group the better.

Luckily there are people like Sticks, Adrian Gleeson and Rod Ashman who are constantly around the club at the moment. But functions like these and past players being welcomed at the club while the playing group go about there preparations are important.

Tickets should be available soon for this event. Expect the current playing group to be in attendance this year along with many past players.

If players are professional, they will do as requested by the Management.

When I go to work, I do what my manager wants. I show initiative when I can.

I under promise and over deliver.

Our players need to learn about Carlton.

The process of getting to a club may have changed - Zones, Interstate.

One thing stays the same, I picked you.

Once Carlton picks a player, they belong to Carlton until we decide you are no longer required.

Very few players voluntarily leave Carlton and go on to become Champions.

They maybe good honest footballers, but Champions and Premiership players never.

All players should view SOC on Youtube and attend as many functions as they can.

SOC do a good job mentoring players, but still more is required.

OK.

I heard an 'us' in there, but I reckon there could have been some 'ups' in the background, especially the second time round.
