Hope they ask some questions about the trade and Grigg.

Mostly Judd Talk

Walker looking around and speaking to a few clubs. Happy to stay if nothing comes of talks.
Sam Jacobs speaking to Adelaide. The Adelaide clubs are keen to get him. More about opportunity than anything else.
Chris Tarrant - Interested but looks like he wants to go to Collingwood. Waiting on the wings.

Nothing about Grigg.

Mentioned a few players keeping options open.

Here's a few notes I took. The audio will probably be available on SEN in a day or so...

Got to know Judd at a few spring carnivals, we got on pretty well.

When it was clear he wanted to come homed we chased him, and it was all good.

The racing offered a very social, relaxed time for a chinwag, most of the stuff you say doesn’t work, but this time it did.

A bit surprised and nice of Judd to say he was the reason to come to Carlton.

A bit of a surprise for Judd to win the Brownlow, his first 5 weeks back were incredible. Managed to get votes when we were losing, which is unusual.

He is #1 in ciontested possessions, so always under the nose of the umpires.

He polls well by using explosive pace and ability, a la 3rd quarter against Sydney in finals.

Andew Walker – contracted to next year, he would like to canvass all options and we’ll just wait and see what happens. He’s happy to stay if nothing transpires. Might be one or two others that want to look around and see what’s out there as well. (Didn’t elaborate.)

A lot of player movement due to GC17 getting best kids, our first pick is #18, which is probably more like #25 after GC17 have already signed 17 year olds.

Sam Jacobs – we are negotiating with him and the Adelaide clubs are keen to get him. We’re keen to keep him, but he is out of contract. He is in disucssion with Adelaide. It’s about opportunity for Sam, Warnock and Kreuzeur going alright. Sammy loves Carlton and we just have to wait and see how it pans out.

Pies in good form, they are quietly confident and you’d think they’d have to win.

Judd signed a 6 year deal when he signed with Carlton, so he still has three years to go. Will probably win 3rd B&F.

Judd came to Carlton with big reputation and he has delivered. We didn’t want to lose Kennedy, but we knew we had to give a bit to get Judd. He sets a fantastic example for young players and hopefully we can start to win a few finals. Been a fantastic role model on and off field for our club.

Chris Tarrant – we would have interest, but there is strong mail he will end up back at Collingwood. We’ll sit back and see what happens. If he doesn’t want to come to Carlton its pretty hard to get a deal done.

Sounds like trade week could be an interesting one.

What I'd like to see:
Mundy for Walker plus 2nd rounder (35ish)
Pick 14 from Adelaide for Jacobs
2 rounder (36ish) from Hawthorn for Thornton

In effect we gain Mundy and a first round pick and lose 3 players who were not necessarily in our best 22.

Not sure if I'm dreaming with this.

Having said that I'd be happy to keep what we have if this couldn't be done.

Essentially it's about pick 21 in a normal draft so I don't see what's so stupid about it from an Adelaide perspective. If I was Adelaide I'd think pick 14 is a good trade.
I'd rather trade Hampson and keep Jacobs - Sammy is going to be a gun.

Remember Collingwood gave up pick 14 for Cameron Wood. I'd suggest pick 14 in a compromised draft was a fair result.

We gave up pick 11 for Brock.

Collingwood gave up pick 14 in a non compromised draft for Cameron Wood a couple of years ago. Jacobs is better than him.

Clubs will pay over the odds if it means they fill a precise need. It's possible. Maybe some steak knives to get the deal done like swapping our 2nd round for their third round pick then.

I think the success of Mumford this year is a blessing and a curse for us.

It makes it likely that we will lose a ruckman, maybe Jacobs maybe Hampson.

But it puts their value right up.

I think Pick 14 is realistic but optimistic.

you'd think it would be more likely that Adelaide will offer the pick at the end of the first round that they will get for Bock going to GC.

Take it. We can roll it over up until 2014. In effect, they're worth roughly the same.

Not sure why people think that is a stupid deal!!!

We've been talking about how promising Jacobs is going to be so can't see why pick #14 would be paying 'overs'...

Besides Port are also in the picture and I'm tipping that they would be willing to trade their pick #16 for Jacobs. So if Crows want him then they will have to do better than #16...

If Adelaide trade that pick do we get the rights attached to it, or must we use it in this draft?

I think it's expected at the very least.

Adelaide apparently will lose one of their ruckmen because of the go home factor. Sam Jacobs is an Adelaide boy whom they will have no problems keeping right till he retires. They don't have to worry about him leaving ala Jolly. Not to mention the fact he is as promising a ruckman as you could hope for.

There is no way they can think that the player they pick at pick 14 will offer the same kind of sure bet value that Jacobs offers. Adelaide won't take this opportunity for granted.

The problem with using pick 14 in either 2011 2012, 2013 or 2014 is that we may end up with pick 14 in each of those years leaving us with 2 x pick 14, but will only be able to use pick 14 once, bcause there's no such thing as 2 x pick 14 in any given year.

If allowed to use both picks 14 in a given year, which one do we use first?

Gotcha

Sammy's worth more coz all the "running in" has been done.

He's ready to be Number 1 ruck from day 1 at a new club. He's bright, a hard worker and popular with team mates.

Footy ability is only part of the deal, with this kid there is no baggage now or likely in the future.

Neil Craig will love him, so don't let him go unless your certain its a great deal for us.

He's like JK mark II.
