I have been doing some research on ladder positions since the 90s. I'm sure some of you have heard about this stat, but since 1991 (the first season in which there were 16 teams), there has always been a team(s) make the top 4 in a season after finishing in the bottom 8 the season before.

Those teams were:
2008 - St.Kilda
2007 - Port Adelaide/North Melbourne
2006 - Freo
2005 - Adelaide
2004 - St.Kilda/Geelong
2003 - Sydney
2002 - Collingwood
2001 - Richmond (after finishing 9th in 2000 of course)
2000 - Melbourne
1999 - Brisbane (after wooden spoon in 98)
1998 - Melbourne (after wooden spoon in 97)
1997 - St.Kilda/Adelaide/WB
1996 - Sydney
1995 - Essendon*
1994 - WB/Coll
1993 - Ess/NM
1992 - WB/Carl

We (along with doggies) were the first to start this incredible trend. Will we be the first to break it? Will Brisbane keep it going instead of us or will we keep the trend going? It sure looks promising

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that.

Freo came 3rd, lost to Adelaide in QF, beat Melbourne in SF and lost to Sydney in PF.

1995 - Freo admitted - Carlton Flag
1997 - Port admitted - I was overseas so it doesn't count!
2011 - CG to be admitted....

This isn't quite as bad as an article in the UK paper the Telegraph saying that England would win the 5th test due to all these other factors which were in common other times England beat Australia such as:

trouble in Iran in 09 like 1979
Stone Roses re-release putting their debut album in the charts for the first time since 2005 (though the album came out in 89 when we belted the Poms 4-0, which they conveniently forgot to mention).
Something to do with Michael Jackson being in the charts

You get the drift, read more here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricke ... -week.html
