Great news Rob, thanks for keeping us in touch. I can safely speak for all of us when I say I'll sink a beer for you when he finally manages to pull down the mark of the year.

Jordan Bannister – Hamstring – Test
Richard Hadley – Groin – 2-4 weeks
Ryan Houlihan – Hip – 7-8 weeks
Michael Jamison – Shoulder – 1-2 weeks
Andrew Walker – Shoulder – 4 weeks

Paul Bower (shoulder) will consult further with a specialist tomorrow, but at this stage it is expected that he will miss up to 8 weeks.

Robbo's hard road

Quote:
CARLTON coach Brett Ratten will spend most of the week planning ways to protect a weakened backline for Sunday's AAMI Stadium assignment against Port Adelaide.

Promising defender Paul Bower became the latest casualty against Geelong on Saturday night, with scans yesterday confirming the 20-year-old would be out for two months with a right shoulder injury.

The defence is already without Michael Jamison (shoulder), but will have Jarrad Waite back from suspension.

Is it really worth bringing him back this year now?

Was thinking the same thing, let it recover properly unless of course we are a shot of making the finals

I would give Austin a few games as a HBF to get him ready for next year.

Sounds fair to me.

Hartlett's not on the injury list - anyone know if he is available?

Great stuff DOA!

It's been a long wait for us fans, bet it's felt twice as long for AW himself. Can't wait to see him out there.

+1, especially given what happened with AW. Do whatever is required to make sure it's right for the long term.

There was a thread earlier about injury management and Walker's shoulder problem was brought up.
He hurt it against the Dawks in 07 .Popped it out twice then didnt play for a while then has an operation when he should have been doing a pre season . Walker actually played the last couple of games in 07. Why is anyone's guess. He comes in to the practice match and flowers it again.Pure coincidence. Bullshit

Point is he should have got it operated after the Hawthorn game because we all new he wasnt going to be playing finals. Because he didnt he is basically missing all of 08

Just have the op Bbird and start training for 09 because your a gun
Playing the last 3 or 4 games would be the ultimate form of medical recovery stupidity and hopefully the people who managed Walker's shoulder problem have learnt from their mistakes

if you add goddard wells and mclean you probably have to take walker fisher and simpson out who have probably achieved as much if not more than the 3 you mentioned we are missing.

then who knows you may have to also take out murphy gibbs and kruezer as things may have panned out differently

its time to forget about those penalties

Basic point is 3 more quality players who we dont have now. I mean its been done to death, but IMO even if we had a free run at the draft, our side was that bad at the end of 2002, it would of taken until about now to be a premiership threat.

Bottom line is we lack depth (still) and need to dip into the draft a bit more to rectify this.

Do we really lack the depth or have we really just failed to get the best developing from the tools at our hands. Every club tops a list up and we have had a few draft picks come through and we have added to our list. What I have seen from other clubs is they get freaks come through with their choices that blitz from game one. We have had players around now for a while that have produced minimal to nill over the last few seasons. Have they had limited exposure in the seniours (I'd say yes)? Have they been played where they will show us their best talents (Probably not)? Have we seen progress and some potential in less than half a season ? Lets just look closer:

Bower - Potentially a great back defender, when he doesn't run like a frightened hare. He will be a great player once his confidence is there.

Jamo - Potentially a great full back. Like everything he has shown us this season. He would be respected by any side and has great trade value. Bugger the trade value, we value him more than other clubs could.

Armfield - Will be a great player. Has dashand an electric presence. He will be special and adds a tough edge to our squad.

Browne - A good defenive player that needs to get his disposal skills going. He can offer so much as he isn't lazy and will run looking for an opportunity to move us forward.

Hampson - Will be an awsome tall boy. Speed, strength and mobility and a good leap. He will be one player we really value for his height.

Cloke - Just a Trouper who can't be questioned for his application. Glad we have him, and as for the filth he moved from, well done kid.

Bentick - Has the hard work ethic many other players need to deliver. Has work ahead of him, but imagine when Diesel teaches him a trick or 2.

Gibbs - Will be a super star once he moves around more from the middle leading across the wing. He isn't that short at 190cm to be very damaging. Just needs more muscle. Brain works not too bad, bar the odd glitch.

Murphy - Ball magnet, game winning machine till he decides to pass the ball on. Needs his radar fine tuned and he will be a gun.

Russell - So much potential if only he played for more than 5 min spells. What is with that. He has the ability to work hard to earn the ball.

Grigg - Another who can be so damaging. Like to see him float around the forward 50 looking for a break to hurt the score board. Needs to learn more awareness but has too much potential to ignore. Forget his past plays, he has something about him.

Betts - Has stepped up this season to show he is damaging in front of goal, and also dangerous across the wing and in the middleof the ground. Can be a very flashy machine for us and will be our future.

Aisake - Needs a chance to show us what he has. Too many sook theories about this kid. Needs to play to develop or send him back home. He must be worth something. Has the height and drive to be a good player. What are we waiting for ??

Then you look at Jackson, Harlett, Austin and others that fail to get a start. Are we that good that we don't need all these players, or are we that ordinary that it makes no difference if they play or not. Hawthorn had this same problem a few seasons ago. Look at them now. Do we just keep moulding the group we have with a top up, or do we just turn the whole playing list up side down. What are the answers ? Who the hell knows. One thing for sure. We must keep developing the current squad. One it will bring out the best of what we use on a regular basis, and 2 it adds trade value when we get an opportunity to trade for something special. No real short cuts in life. Its all, work, work, work. Lets just hope we see some real potential from our group. Its the tool box we currently have. Thats just my thought anyway.

Keogh, the original operation was BOTCHED,nothing to do with Club medical staff or player recovery mangement.
It was Andys decision to play on in 07,in hindsight he should not have, but he is one stubborn young fella.

Thanks for the input DOA. I take it that the surgeon who flowered Andy's shoulder is no longer utilised by the club? :?

Don't know, but the last surgeon was the same guy who fixed Shane Warne,as I've said before,at the very least Andy should be right to send text messages.

That surgeon that did Warney's hair is crap at shoulders.
So it's great to hear Andy isn't that far away.
