"An AFL spokesman said the match review panel had not yet finished analysing the Carlton-Fremantle game."

Hopefully this means that McAnus will get charged.

If he committed the offence, it is a disgraceful act by a footballer who continually lacks discipline.
Even if Fev gets off, his actions in this incident were poor.

BV, when i was young (long time ago now) we used to play World Championship wrestling in the back yard with my cousins. There were times one of my older cousins would grab me in a pretty tight headlock and my natural instinct would be to do whatever it took to get out. Pinch, scratch, even gouge.

Says in a Jack Little voice... NOOOOOOOOO COMMMMMMMMMENT!!!!!
Oh they were the dAYs!!!

Each to their own opinion.
I was placed in headlocks plenty of times playing football Jarusa.
I've been punched, I even had a player try to kick me once.
But going for a persons eyes, the most disgraceful act in my books.

Thats just the way I see it, It doesnt bother me if others disagree.
I dont care if Fev punched the shit out of him, anything, but going for the eyes, cant be condoned no matter what.

Prez/Synbad, I can see where you guys are coming from, but I still don't buy it. I think fjanyc's approach is the better one. I mean how far can we excuse a person's behaviour before they must ultimately accept responsibility?

Forget the technical post rationalisation, it looked bloody ugly, and if it was another player from another club we'd be sinking the boot in.

I can see where youre coming from camelboy but if a suprremely fit gym going footballer had his arms around my throat and squeezed he can expect something unpleasant going the other way. there have been a few cases of the sleeper hold in the AFL over the years and its just as ugly. Plus it can be more fatal.
Thats the extreme i know.. but then Fev didnt take the eye out either.

Hey, what did I do!

I was just trying to describe what I saw, I offered no opinions.

If you would like my opinion, I agree with you.

Once in the headlock, Fev should have just stretched his arms out and conceded the wrestle was over, instead he kept trying to fight back from a position where his only foreceful option to extracate himself was to do something STUPID and illegal.

Damned if you do damned if you dont.
The supporters would have said he is soft.

Look Fev tried but did it all wrong.
It stems back to the midfield . Fev cant get the tap out to himself , win the clearance and hand ball to himself.. kick it long to a leading Fev.

honestly, if it was a carlton player that had another player in a headlock and he got eye gouged i would say that the he got what he deserved.

i really cant understand why a headlock isnt considered a serious incident. It can arguably be the most dangerous incident that can lead to a very serious injury, broken neck is but a few of the things that can happen.

IMO - a headlock is far worse than stiking an opponent and you would get three weeks for striking someone these days, yet headlocks seems to go unpunished.

You may be right about the headlocks, but I'm still struggling to accept that eye gouging is acceptable, or even attempted eye gouginig, no matter how it is justified.

In some ways, I'd probably have preferred a squirrel grip. Eye gouging is just the epitome of dirty play and I don't want to ever see a Carlton player do anything again that could even be suggested as being eye gouging, much less have eveidence that, at the very least, raises some pretty tough questions.

eye gouging isnt acceptable and never should be

however, if its done under duress then it cant and should be compared to when a player is eye gouging and meaning to do it.

IMO - Fev isnt doing it deliberatly, he is doing it in response to being in a headlock

So did some evil force take over Fev's body then?

When I'm driving home and some punk pulls out in front of me, I feel compelled to drive into the scrotes, but I know it would be a dumb thing to do.

once again, when people are in headlocks, its a natural instinct to panic, and when you are in panic most people dont think to clearly.

I'm probably being really biased here.
But the few times I've seen it, it appeared Fev wasn't able to see where his hand was…then he looked to have withdrawn his hand the moment he felt contact to the face.
As others have stated, he could have been choking for all we know.
It'll be interesting to see what is said.

Not as bad as Scotland's anyway, IMO.

Sorry Jarusa.
I was referring to The Prez' post.

Lets see what transpires at the tribunal Scott.
If Fev is innocent, great.
If he is guilty, Carlton supporters should be disgusted in his actions.

Lets hope Fev is innocent.

When J Brown put some dude in a headlock they wanted to remove one of his testicles, so now Grover is only gonna get a $900 fine?

I'm confused.
