Just watching Law and Order - channel 10. News break, cross to sports tonight and he finishes by saying "AND BRENDAN FEVOLA ESCAPES SUSPENSION".

Then he was gone.....

No idea whether this was about the wrestling or other.

Probably just the wrestling report.
Channel 10 obviously don't realise that you can't get suspended for wrestling.

That's a bit misleading Rich - all it is saying is they haven't finished looking at the game. That suggests to me that they have something to examine in greater detail.

It's possible too that if the face incident was obvious and cut & dry they would have charged him by now. We can only hope.

Just heard/saw on FoxFooty News Update that he has been offered a $900 fine for wrestling and will hear tomorrow if he is to get charged for the "other incident".

How bloody slack are the review panel.. They should know that Carlton play Friday night and should have reviewed that game first. They looked at the wrestling and fine both players, why not look at it then. The tape was bloody in the machine for gods sake.

as per the report on the link I posted, he's escaped all but the fine for the initial wrestling charge, but once they've carried out the video review...

he's goonnnnnneee....

as per scotland, i presume he'll go straight up on a misconduct charge, there'll be a hearing and he'll cop a suspension.

I think we're looking at about a month although it depends on how they see the contact to the face as gouging or just a bit of general probing in that region.

but, there could be worse things for us than giving fev a month to sit on the sidelines and think about things..

shame if he misses the last match at optus though!

I'd say it's not all that clear cut! Let's just wait and see before we convict him.

I agree.

I can't work out whether its good or bad. The fact that they have to return to it means its not clear cut, but it alos means having watched it they remain concerned.

Maybe they're just sleeping on it.

Very odd they fine him and but could not reach an opinion re the alleged gouging. One view I have seen is very damning the other view it woud appear that contact was minimal to the cheek region.

Personally I think he wil get off.

Brendan Fevola looked to make contact to Grover's eye with this finger.

Fevola fined, but probe continues
26 April 2005 Herald Sun
Bruce Matthews

"A FIRST-OFFENDER'S wrestling fine for Brendan Fevola last night may not be the last offer he gets from the AFL this week.

Fevola is still under investigation for the incident involving Fremantle's Antoni Grover at Subiaco on Saturday."

I think Fev will get cleared. There is no evidence of a strike or a gouge, just wrestling. If I was running Carlton's defence it would be as follows -- there is only evidence of wrestling. If any blood was drawn on Grover's face, it was a result of the wrestling. Given that he has already been charged and fined for wrestling, he shouldn't be then subject to any additional penalty/charge. To do so, would be tantamount to double jeopardy. The Fev incident is very different to the Scotland charge as there was clear evidence in that case that contact was made with Lockyer's eye.

FWIW, Fev was clearly frustrated but I wasn't too disappointed he threw his weight around. I think Freo manhandled us a little bit and won the physical contest. At least Fev was trying to fly the flag.

The positive for me is that we have been competitive this year despite the fact that our forwards have been down. If Fev and/or Lance can find form, I think we will be a very dangerous side!

FRom the age article:

Quote:
Fevola has more weighty matters on his mind, as he waits to see whether he will be called to account for Grover leaving the ground under the blood rule.

Television footage seemed to show Fevola in contact with Grover's face during the pair's second-quarter scuffle and the Docker made for the bench with blood dripping from under his eye.

Review panel chief Peter Schwab said last night a decision on the incident would be made some time today.

Just had a close look at the incident:

This is what happens as far as I could see.

Fevola atempts a tackle on a Freo player and catches him very high (I assume this was an auto 50 metres).

The player Fev contacted runs from around 10 metres away towards a stationary Fev and initiates a wrestle, Fev responds.

Grover see the wrestle and from around 10-15 metres away runs towards it at pace and joins in.

Grover takes over from the other freo player and the wrestle escalates from a simple stand up shoving match to a show of strength on the ground.

Fev initially is on 'top' in the wrestle and lays a few jumper punches, and has Grover pinned to the ground.

Trapped, Grover proceeds to grab and pull Fev's hair very forcefully with both hands.

This allows grover to get Fev in a tight headlock and roll him over almost in a pile-driver fashion so that the top of Fev's head is on the ground.

The ultimate 'position' they ended up in would be known in wrestling as almost a submission position. Fev would have no 'legal' way to remove himself from the headlock.

Fev then grabs at the left side of Grover's face. It is not clear but it does look as though the 'grab' may have reached across to Grover's right cheekbone.

As Fev is grabbing Grover's face he slings Fev onto his back, as this happens Fev's hand appears to make almost a quick flicking motion.

The wrestle finishes and grover has a small amount of blood coming from the front of his right cheekbone.

If they are undecided to report after viewing the footage it would appear the are going through an investigation ie interviewing Grover etc. A CHARGE WILL NOT BE LAID. Look out Hawks here we come.
