Having moved all the way through to the Final of the Wiz ( what ever) Cup

DP increased the training level and fitness etc until they were flying on the track.

This 6 week run of losses is normally associated with sides who have a mid season slump.

Is our slump earlier that other teams in a similar position as we had trained to peak at an earlier time?

Sounds like something DP should take the blame for although I couldn't help but agree with him and the AGE journo today who stated that the 2 dramatic points in our game was walker to waite who dropped the mark in the square, and lappin's report and subsequent free kick with 50m attached.

With respect, I see our current form as a continuation of a mid-decade slump, rather than anything resembling a mid-year slump. The wheel is turning however.

Perhaps Dennis thought winning the Wok would enhance his chances of securing another contract?? This is the coach who looks after numero uno first innit??

We are the worst performing side since '97 (start of the current 16 team format) - it's no slump - it's the modern Carlton.....

Actually not sure how you're rating it Pickle, but arguable Richmond, Freo and Hawthorn have been worse. And Collingwood aren't too far behind.

Team - Average finish / Finals:
Freemantle - 11.1 / 2
Richmond - 11.1 / 1
Hawthorn - 11 / 2
Carlton - 10.6 / 3 (incl a 2nd)
Collingwood - 10.1 / 3 (inc. 2 x 2nds)

Interesting theory mate - followed up with (excl. nytdog's post) a load of drivel posts...

Whether it is physical, or a mental slump (a honeymoon period after the cup - that could last all year) - it does seem like the boys have dropped a little.

That said, they are still playing with a lot of intensity - much more than we have seen in recent years, but they are getting those flat periods in matches and seem to be struggling to play out the four quarters.

Waite's mark wasn't textbook IIRC, but - being at the game - Lappin's report, free kick - 50m penalty, free kick again down the gorund and mark in Adelaide's goal square was the turning point in the game (even though we got close after that) - a potential 12 point turnaround that took away the momentum.

But I'm not going to bitch because I am over it... the umpires have screwed us over for so long it's hardly surprising.

And if I'm not going to bag the umpires, there's no way I'll be paying out on my own team.

(Like some.)

No question Waite's dropped mark was a 2 goal turnaround, and a big blow to the team.

However, Denis should take a look at his mid-field group and rotations, having 2 talls on the bench, and being at least one runner short.

We controlled the 1st 10 mins of the last but failed to put scoreboard pressure on the Crows due to poor kicking on goal.

Waites missed mark was one of many bad misses in the last that didn't help the cause.

Exactly and if you add the 2nd quarter, well loss is the end result.
You cannot drop your output against quality opposition.

walker was caught into two minds wehn he ran into the forward 50 arc. it wasn't a shot on goal neither a pass.. if he focussed on passing he would have placed it calmly on waites chest instead of blasting it towards his head in a mongrel punt fashion.

Despite the disappointment and frustration of losing once again, a game which was within our ability to win, I'm feeling quite calm about how we will fare during the rest of the season and it has nothing to do with the tablets I'm taking !

No science to it but I sense our 'breakthough' moment is inevitable and it won't be too long away......

maybe even a three-in-a-row run of wins

My guess .... 7 to 8 games by year end.

Irrespective, 2007 was always ever going to be practice for 2008.

Whether I'm right or just dillusional... :? only time will tell :?:
