Wow, another three weeks. That will make the rotating captain's policy interesting over the next few weeks.

Not a surprise, but questions over his future will become more common the longer it takes him to get fit.
I don't know if he will be in reasonable shape again this year - after all he has carried this thing for a long time with no great output as a result.
Perhaps we should be thinking LTI and promoting Jamison... The LTI may be an issue, but if he doesn't play for multiple weeks then I can't see that as an overwelming problem.

Why would you keep an eternally injured/unfit player when you could be getting much valuable game time into Setanta's brother? It should all be about the future. Lance would be lucky to get one year playing cameo roles as back-up.

Whats worse is why would you recruit guys with dodgy knees and dodgy shoulders - I can half understand hanging on to your own hoping they would come good. but bringing them in from other clubs sheesh madness

If we're serious about the building for the future, then he is gone.
We will get a good idea of whether we've reformed our out of date strategies by the way this pans out..I'm not hopeful

Well, I don't care about you lot, I hope he can come back and be a valuable senior member of our team, and help along those young kids.

Yep take 'em out to all the nightclubs in Ballarat where there is less chance of trouble

And where time is a non issue

He should have been stripped of the captaincy there and then

He is the most protected player by his club in the AFL

He turns up to pre season over weight

He only turns up to pre season in reasonable shape when his contract is up for renewal

He is too slow and short for the modern game

Never saw him at any Bullant games last season

He spends half the time on the interchange bench thus we run out of legs in the last quarter

He has a chronic knee condition that will only get worse

He is finished and yet some supporters still get conned by his
footy smarts

If he is not shown the door at the end of the season the club is dumb dumb dumb

Thats why IMO Pagan should be shuffled off now so that these decisions are made

Lance has been a good servant at the club.

His record proves it

IMO he shouldnt have won the B+F in 06. Fevola, Scotland and Simpson deserved it more.
Lance's second half of the season was shit

His body doesnt allow him to play out a whole season even in his best year

Its time to show him the door.

Regardless of whether Whitnall is physically able or worthy of another contract, I suspect he'll get one simply by default; if Lappin and Koutoufides retire, as I hope they will, and we trim the list as expected (Teague, Saddington, Bannister etc), our list will be extremely light on for 'experience' (which is not to be confused with leadership, mind you).

In my perfect world, however, I'd move Whitnall on. Most weeks, I simply can't find a suitable position or match-up for him, and his presence becomes a liability.

+1

My greatest memory as a Carlton fan is being three rows back from the boundary line in 99 when he slotted that monster against the dons and starting waving his arms about the place.

Sad to say, but his time has come. Either his body won't get him over the line, or his lack of mental discipline to get his body right is the culprit. Either way, if we're going to be serious about improving ourselves as a club and commiting to rebuilding, Lance should go. I'm sick of people constantly referring to Hawthorn as the model, but I guess Barker may be a good reference?

Still don't care about you guys. 8)

Oh and keogh...most protected player? Perhaps we should look under the rugs of some other clubs and find the dust bunnies resting there.

He can teach them to THINK out there...not to be so reactive. Lead at a player, not stand so flat footed. Read the play. If you have no hope of marking, then spoil. God knows no one else seems to be teaching them that.

As I said, this is my humble opinion. And everyones funny little jibes wont change that.

So there. 8)

FWIW I reckon Lance will be asked quietly to leave. If he does stay, which is a possibility, I'd say it'd be a 12 month contract only.

An interesting test for the new breed making these decisions for the club.
