Yeah, without having the benefit of any interviews or investigation, the two I am liking the sound of more and more are McKenna and Buckley.

I don't think that Buckley will take a senior role next year, I'd be happy if Carlton went through a thorough process and came up with McKenna.

I'd be VERY disappointed if Voss was appointed WITHOUT a thorough process.

im certain we will have a thorough method into appointing a new coach.

wonder if the collingwood swanny link could give the club an insight into mckennas merits

watching him interviewed prior to todays game was rather interesting and he came across very well

I hope we do, but have we ever done that in previous years? Are we the type of club who interviews a number of candidates or do we just go out there and get whoever we think is the best?

We have Stephen Kernahan where it matters. That fills me with zero confidence.

Now you're just being silly - even Pagan is a better coach than Watson...

mmm... actually, on second thoughts.

Watson had a better win/loss ratio

And if my Auntie had balls she'd be my Uncle.

That wasn't me arguing Timmmae would be a good choice
It was somewhat more a lament on Pago Pagos efforts in the dismal last half a decade

Great article.

After yet another big loss, young Blues need Voss - Rohan Connolly.

but if it doesn't want to linger a few more years near the cellar of the ladder, it needs to have a long, hard look at the supposed top end sooner rather than later.

There's a fair argument that could be better achieved with a new coach with a longer future at the helm than one most unlikely to get the nod past the end of 2008 anyway. And while a payout of up to $600,000 for dispensing with Pagan's services is an issue, it's far less of one when Richard Pratt is your president.

With the scope to build a team for the long term in his image, and not as a caretaker paving the way for somebody else, a coach such as Voss would have more licence, and certainly less baggage, to be able to make the really tough calls on some big names.

But given that Melbourne is already off and running in the coaching race, it's one the Blues may never get the chance to try on unless they make an even bigger call than that about any mere player — one on a coaching legend.

I'm curious as to what exact process would satisfy you Siegfried? You don't appear to believe that Voss has the experience for the position, so it seems unlikely that any process that ends with his appointment as senior coach will have been been 'thorough' enough for your liking.

That's a pretty frank and accurate article from Connolly.

The Hawks game could have been tolerated had our next effort been a good one. Who knows what will happen next week. Tough to even manage a glimmer of hope right now.

Carlton opens door to untried ex-player as coach

Quote:
Blues chief executive Greg Swann said yesterday he had changed his view on the issue of coaching apprenticeships and now believed it was possible for some individuals to step straight into senior coaching.

I think it's clear that the wheels are in motion, and that they are preparing for something big VERY soon. Swann's being as subtle as a brick at the moment.

I figure we've already had two sacrifical goats in the last forntight (Whitnall and Fev), now who could EB mean with this one?

Sticks is the one I would least expect, but I don't see how they make a sacrifical goat of a bloke who is on the Board and is so popular with the rank and file members.

My only other sacrifical possibility is Setanta - he's already Pagan's sacrifical ruck, sacrifical CHF, sacrifical FF, and sacrifical FB.
