I could go all day if I sat thinking! :-D

But seriously if we could come up with a few cool slogans for T-Shirts, we're set. We'd make the opposition supporters have a chuckle, and we'd be supporting the club.

I like the idea of having your photo with sticks holding up the 87 and 95 premiership cups.

I like the idea even better of having my photo with Mike Fitzpatrick holding up the 81 and 82 premiership cups. Now wouldn't that go down well with the AFL commission.

I reckon it would be good to try and develop the Darwin market a little more.
Perhaps put it to the afl to play an annual friday night game up there in the first week of the split round against the bulldogs. We (and the dogs) could use the few days before the match to promote the game and the carlton brand.

If we got backing from the afl and channel seven it may just be a goer.

p.s. of course on the condition that we play the previous round on friday night to suitably recover for the territory heat.

Bum ba ba bum bum ba ba bum bummmmmp.

These aren't so much money making ideas as market research to enhance current revenue streams.

Simple idea - take an MVP (any variation of 1, 3 or 5 players) poll each week via the website and crown the "member's" MVP after round 22 (possibly through the member services suggested by other posters of this site?). Maybe integrate a small bonus into all player's contracts for winning, or placing in the award count.

The exercise would give marketing and PR a direct link with the fans as to who to make the face of the club in advertising, merchandising and who to focus on more in terms of honing their media skills. Some or all of the money saved cutting back on other paid market research techniques could be used for the player bonus(es).

Sponsors could get into the action with a prize draw for attempting to pick the MVP before a certain point of the season. I'm sure we have some prize packages allocated that could be used in this manner. It could also be an alternative to a paid bonus for the player.

Further extending on the poll idea, and possibly intergrating previously suggested video interviews with players, could be a segmented web poll for player personality of the year. This would seek to identify media-savvy players, or players with a marketable image/work ethic, and allow the club to direct more media interviews through these players. Obviously this may prove a little more difficult as the players may expect something incorporated into their contracts to compensate them for their marketabililty in this area (ala Pagan's outside contracts). Looking at guys like Kouta and Whitnall who are probably recognised as the face of our club at the moment, they don't exactly excel in this area.

The ability to identify 7 or 8 guys who can share most of the player's media requirements (or at least identify who to send along for significant media appearances; the voting for this could go in a number of directions) would prove useful. Perhaps a PR guy who could get in Pagan's ear would be great too, but I sense that may be covered by our mate Dick soon.

Maybe they could be grouped together as something like "Carlton People's Choice Awards" ala some of the awards ceremonies seen in the US (and I suppose here with the *gag* Logies).

Anyway, just an idea.

I don’t know if Essendon* still doing it but for a while they use to give lots of membership tickets free to school children and as you can see finally it paid dividends for them by having the highest memberships in Victoria.

I wish Carlton could start something like this, by schedule certain Carlton games that won’t attract big crowds and donate entry tickets to local children in primary schools accompanied by a parent and other paying members of the family could join in the group and an allocation being reserved for them, maybe also a free bus or two could be arranged with Princess Park being the pickup & return point.

I like the idea of trying to lure kids form a young age. If done effectively, there are clear long term benefits in doing so. I'm not sure if giving away memberships is the right way to go about it, but perhaps it's not a bad way???

Would be interesting to hear what the actual cost to the club is for each member that signs up.

Some ideas;

Market 'retro' Carlton gear from our most succesful periods. The NRL does this really well - you can buy 1970s Rugby League guernseys quite easily in Sydney. Especially as not every one is thrilled with our current strip. Wouldn't suggest however Mayne period retro gear.

Have an outdoor walk of fame at Princes Park having fixed banners displays commemorating our legends, with photos and a description of their playing career. Again one of the NRL clubs St George has this at their ground and it is great! It names sponsor engraved in the brickwork and paving as a way I think of offsetting the costs. And more historical information about our club around the place would be good too.

And to top this off a sculpture of Jezza's mark over Jerker Jenkins in the 1970 Grand Final. It would give another reason to visit the social club

what I meant was giving daily passes for that particular match only and you may pick this one school today and another school another match, lets face it there would be a few Carlton matches with the ground half empty.

Work in the 'industry' and can categorically say that Carlton is still one of the best supported clubs for young kids. Something as simple as a visit from players (with basic free stuff, such as pencil cases, etc) can sway kids. Worth looking into.

Sometimes I wonder what exactly our lower level sponsors get out of sponsoring our club, other than the satisfaction of supporting our great club. As a value adding procedure for corporate sponsors of all levels how about the club produces a yellow pages type booklet listing all the club sponsors along with contact details, address, and a brief description of the service or products they provide (with the organisations permission first of course) and then sends it out to the members each year. We could even offer an option for larger advertisements to corporate sponsors as an optional addition to Carlton sponsorship. If it’s handled right I’m sure most Carlton members would support the initiative.

Another idea is a competition we could run among our junior members each year giving them the opportunity to "Train with the Carlton Football team". It doesn't have to be anything major, for older junior members they have the option to run through a few minor non contact drills with a few of the boys if they wish, meet the coach and the captain, have a photo op with a couple of our stars and present the kid with a signed jersey. It's a minor thing but its all good PR.

Agree with giving kids free tickets. They need to bring adullts witht them so thats money in the bank in a way. Some parents may weigh up the cost of taking their kid to the footy and a free ticket may not sway them. Are u willing to give a free adult ticket to a parent??

My cousin works for a welfare agancy. Collingwood and Bulldogs give them a lot of free tickets. These are teenagers and they are only a few years from entering the workforce so you see a quicker return.

I like the Walk of Fame, but I thought Carlton was building a Hall of Fame. Memorabilia, premiership cups, Photos , interactive diaplays. Is it part of the new development?? Part 1 not Disneylnd

I think it will be more suitable and should be erected at the MCG outside the AFL Social Club but I don’t know how it will go with the opposition supporters, as most supporters think only of their Club and all the other clubs are scum.

Saying that aspose another sculpture of Jezza's mark at Princes Park wont hurt.

The more statues of Jezza's mark around the place the better!

I am an interstate member and something we did get was the Entertainment Card package (I think that is what it is called) as part of the membership (though many of the benefits required a trip to Vic.) Not this year though. Does anyone know what happened to it?

Wasn't aware of the indoor hall of fame (think that is great) but an outdoor walk I think could work with it

I think the club should tap in on MC Labour Park and run the worlds largest Auskick centre. You will find that many of the schools in the area lack the sufficient open space to operate one and by drawing on those schools from the Carlton, Brunswick, Fitzroy, Coburg and Parkville areas.

The cost to the club would probably be zilch as Auskick centres are self funded and many of them make a neat buck through sausage sizzles etc. The benefits could be enormous. Many primary school children in these areas are first generation Australians and have not been born into barracking for an AFL club like my kids were ... put them into a venue like Mc Labour park with three players per week rostered on and these young kids will be sold.

I had a 10 year involvement with Auskick and sadly one thing I noticed was the dwindling number of kids that wore Carlton jumpers.

Running an Auskick centre from Mc Labour park gives the club a great chance to really dominate the surrounding area.
