We have been told for quite a while by those in the know around the club that CFC had decided to scrap any mebership TV ads for this season because they are a waste of money, i.e. they do not bring in as much money as they cost.

Tonight on Ch 9 there was a CFC membership ad, nothing fancy mind you, looked like it was done very cheaply, but still the air time does cost big bucks

For those in the know, what caused the change of mind? Why is the club doing TV ads now?

Never thought there would not be an ad. Having seen it, it is simply shot with footage from the Wizzer Cup and Pagn in the players race giving the spiel.

To be honest while membership is up about 1 000 on this time last year I would have thought the Wizard Cup win would have brought more through the door.

Also given our next two games are interstate we need to convince those who usually leave taking up a membership until after the season start to do so now.

Personally I would liked to have seen a membership of 35 000 for the year. Very dissappointed in the supporter base if we did not make it.

At least a certain trouble maker was in early this year for thiers.

My understanding is that the air time is provided by the FTA networks as part of the last TV rights deal. As you can see with the production and talent used it is either donated (eg. I think Peter Rowthorn donated his fee for the Hawthorn ad) and done very cheaply - (eg. Denis Pagan in the players race).

I will give you something to sing about.

Ok, the club was hoping to do well in the Wizzer and start well in the home and away.Clearly our start will not be as good as hoped and we have lost momentum. Therefore we have to rely on ads .

thanks AGRO.

That would explain it. Is it possible to 'bank' this time? If it is then it seems Carlton may have held off showing ads so that they could bank them and 'blitz' the screens over a short period when they were needed most.
