I prefer send us, but send up makes sense if you view it from the time of reserves and under 19's, etc.

I think "send up" means to take the piss etc. When someone is a champion people always tend to try to pull them back down again by making derogatory comments about them. I always thought that was what was meant by "all the champions they like to send up".
I never took it to mean actually send someone up through the ranks or to send them up from below.

What about the line "WE'RE THE TEAM THAT NEVER LETS YOU DOWN"

That hasn't exactly been true the last few years. :(

I never used to know the words of the songs of other clubs because I never used to hear them all that much - until about 2002 I think.

OK. It is time for closure.

But how do we get closure?

Would writing to the club be helpful? I fear they might just stick with what is already on the website and change room board, as this requires no investigation and/or action. Is the website version (with "send us") truly the OFFICIAL version??

Is it worth getting the new President's views on the matter?

A members' petition?

Again, I far prefer "send UP", and obviously would want this to get UP in any poll or petition.

But at the end of the day, we don't want the club's supporters singing two different songs. Just keep in mind, the team runs onto the ground, with the Fable Singers' "send UP" version being played.

We've had Carlton in our family for years and from when I got taught it as a 3 yr old I always sang "send up". I was confused when I saw the players sing "send us". It's definitely up, if you ask me.

FWIW....I checked with the Official AFL Version....and it's "send us"; which makes far more sense.....to me anyhow.

I heard an old version of our song on vinyl not so long ago, from the 70's I suspect. It was:

SEND UP

Which makes perfect sense because

(a) When the lyrics were penned, players were sent up through the ranks.

(b) If you sing the song, us and up don't rhyme. Up and up make far more sense, and don't jar nearly as much as us and up.

I don't care what the players sing today. When I was a kid, it was up.

Yep.....no doubt that "send up" rhymes with "end up"......but it doesn't make sense....it's too abstruse..............................and stupid.....IMO.

I've always been an 'ends up' man myself, Warbs :-D

Sorry, 'Send up'

That actually makes more sense to me.

With all the champions THEY (the opposition sending their champions)like to send up (against us),
We'll keep our end up (stand defiant)
And THEY will know that they've been playing.......

That was always my early recollection of the song as well.

Even though the official version has changed over the years, it's the way I still sing the song. :-D
