Why are you talking about the past?

you're always saying it's we give it too much weight.

But now it's everything?

You're not making sense Synbad.

Think about the future.

New club, new board and admin, debt wiped out, GWS type draft concessions.

If you guys are seriously wanting to merge with north, then piss off and start following north. Merging is not the carlton way. You just lose your soul once you do it. You think anyone growing up would have a clue who fitzroy or south melbourne are.

I dont know if l could support carlton if they merged. Wouldnt feel right. Probably give up footy altogether or follow another team that hasnt sold their soul to win premierships. I rather earn them the hard way.

Agree, and no need for me to read this thread other than to identify the supporters I would prefer just leave the club now and support current ladder leaders.

So we fail to play finals foe a decade or two or three, it turns around and I give you the tip how history works....we will rise and others will drop.

We have changed the Presidents who oversaw our short term demise, Elliot, Kernahan and we will turn up the heat of the current if we don't improve.

Same with the recruitment team.

We have Princes Park and North don't.
We have 45,000 members and we aren't even playing finals.
We will be out of debt as soon as we choose to where many will be.
We turnover tens of millions more than others
We have huge following around the country.
We play footy like every other team to represent a group of loyal supporters to have something to show their value with succeed, and in this business its flnals and flags.

We have the most flags and we've played in more finals than nearly every team in the comp bar Collingwood...and we will again, just as teams not in the finals over the last 10 years will.

I'm proud of the achievements of our forefathers and I believe we will build a team with the right group of people to win the 17th flag before others reach that milestone.

Those supporters if that's what you call yourselves can piss off now. :  and go and get a root or something if you're bored.

We are the custodians of this club. Get it. We have no need to merge.

Just at training tonight in the Eastern Suburbs footy team my kids play with, in rugby town Sydney there were 7 Carlton jumpers running around on kids proud as punch, and there's 2 others we know of who proudly barrack for the Blues and 3-4 sheepish supporters or more plus parents....and the kids look forward to watching their team with a super rich history stretching 150 years. They know nothing about politics and don't need to; that's for others to do at the club and on these forums.

We are a bigger club than some of you realise and we don't need you to devalue it.

Put all that in a good marketers hand and they can turn that to gold....and one day soon there will be a smart marketer who will love to take on the job of polishing what's tarnished and will be a most rewarding job. That's what good marketers do.

Improve our list over the next 3 years and we can play finals again.

Have a look at the aging lists above us. They will fall down the ladder and their positions replaced by those below them. It happens every year, decade and century.

Chicken shits wanting instant results don't have the patience to ride through the tough times. Go to another team if you want instant results. You'll be dead and gone like many others have over the last 150 years and the club will still be around and they will win premierships. You know why? Because history does repeat itself and our time will come, and will come quicker the sooner we rid ourselves of disloyal troublemakers wanting to see the demise of our team as Carlton.

Stick you big ideas up your arse.

Jump from the 90's to modern times Synbad.

Teens will be rocking up to watch the Blues in droves at the MCG as we match it with the big guns in the afl. With their iwatches and iglasses that allow you to zoom right in on the play and switch to spider cam mode. All while checking tinder at the same time.

You will be at home yapping on about how bad the late 2000's were to a few on a footy fan forum.

Be bold my friend be bold.

He who hesitates masturb@tes.

Get your hand off it club.
You don't want a merger, you want a debate.

Just respect those who love this club, and understand that the club will continue to exist without a merger.

Whilst the club might not win a flag when you want it to, it will win a flag and win plenty of great games and bring plenty of enjoyment along with disappointment, which is exactly what life brings for everyone.

It's a game. It's life. No need to destroy it because it doesn't bring you instant results.

I'm an optimist. Glass half full man.

We need to work on the challenge our predicament deals us, just as we do with life. that's half the fun.

If it's too hot in the kitchen just bail. Let the rest of us politicise how we can change to get us back at the top. Great challenge, and we have 45,000 people who are part of that. Let them be and let them grow. Respect their entity and sense of belonging. No one is holding a gun to their head.

Enjoy the good times and ride the bad as best they can.

I have an idea. We merge with Collingwood, maintain the current jumper and call ourselves, the Carlton Blues.

Agree, if we merge we are dead. I would probably lose interest in football and many would be the same.

I can't believe this thread has lasted as long as it has, imagine other supporters reading this? They would be pissing themselves laughing.

wait.... let me get a straight face......

So your main problem is with the idea is about identity?

It's an artificial club that's not Carlton anymore, is that the problem?

I understand that. It's why I would prefer to remain US.

But something has to change then, at board level or maybe at the grass roots. When does that happen?

Who's leading the charge? Where's our Don Scott?

We don't have one, nobody gives a @#$%&! that's why our friends on the board do as they please.

So you want to threaten to merge but not really merge to get an apathetic supporter base angry and involved?

Hmmm, well we do need a fire lit under the club to get things moving....

You need to rebuild the club, from the top.

The CEO initiates a full independent review of all operations.

The board steps down.

An open election is conducted for a 9 member board.

The new board implements all review recommendations....

We need to keep our fingers crossed that those of us from the glories days die off quickly so those who have genuine hunger (as opposed to an Alzheimer's foggy recollection of grand old times) rebuild or we drift off into the sunset waving our faded scarves, (a la Melbourne).

I'm not a particular fan of a merge. But I definitely see value in the discussion as to where the long term future of the club lies. The gap is only going to get bigger between the haves and have nots. The question for me is whether our board and executive has the vision and ability to see us move from a lower middle level club living on past glories and perenially in debt to one of the power clubs in the competition - a 'have' club like Collingwood, Hawks or WCE.

Obviously most on here are confident in this boards abilities to get this done which is nice. I'm not so sure.
