Absolutely JW, we aren't the powerhouse we used to be. Any additional revenue is going to help. It was only a few years ago we nearly went under - I don't want to ever experience that again!

No change for me, thanks.... except if they wear the guernsey with the proper cfc monogram (1920's-1997)

Carlton is carlton because we wear a navy blue guernsey with a white mongram. Just cause they have changed strips in soccer doesn't mean we have to do it in footy.

Good on collingwood and Essendon* for protecting their heritage.

The afl love following everything they do in usa sport - salary cap./drafts etc... from my understanding us clubs don't change their strips - whether it is baseball, basketball or whatever.
no NEED to do it - and forcing clubs to do it - again smacks of head office arrogance.

grow up afl!!

They do have alternate strips in the NBA, tap.

I understand those who don't want any change, but I reckon we need to have an alternative (not alternate) strip.

Tap, the US clubs do have 2 strips. I know the Vikings have a predominatly purple one, while their "away" strip is mainly white with the purple trim. The Broncos also have a predominatly blue strip with their "other" strip being mainly white.

Baseball clubs also change their strips.

Yep, all the U.S. major sports use alternative uniforms.

Really? I disagree.

Carlton is Carlton because of 16 premierships, among other things. Pride in the jumper is what it signifies, ie the traditions of the club and its success, not the actual colour the material happens to have been dyed. Are you suggesting that if our colours were, red and black, for instance that we would not be the club we are?

wheather we like it or not, it's being FORCED upon us, so there is little point in fighting it.

the predominatley white strip with the massive monogram on it looks great i reckon and would rule out any clash, which would only be away games agains the dees and dones as far as i can see.

The major US sports have no advertising on their strips which I think is a great thing.

Interesting topic - even though we canvassed all this last year. My feelings are that we should resist any change to our jumper.

Why? because we are The Navy Blues. We are a colour. That is, our name is a colour. We are not a bird (Hawks, Swans, Eagles, Crows, Magpies) our club is not represented by an animal (Dogs, Cats, Roos, Tigers, Lions) we have no biblical affiliations (Saints, Demons) and I don't quite know how to classify Dockers, Bombers, Power. We are the only club that is represented by a colour in our name.

How ridiculous is it then to force us to change our colour. The AFL are asking us to compromise our name. When our team runs out in silver, or orange or any other bloody colour - we are not The Navy Blues. We become the Mostly-Silver-With-a-Touch-Of Navy Blues. Or the Mostly-Orange-and-Silver-with-an-interesting-Navy-Blue-piping Navy Blues.

I meam, what colour is a Bomber really - mostly Battle-Ship gray, I would have thought. In any case, they are not called the Mostly-Black-With-a-Red-Sash Bombers, or even The-Black-and-Red Bombers. Colour has a different meaning for them - and for all of the other teams.

Nah, not interested. I want to see us dressed in our Navy Blue jumpers for all games.

Let those teams that can play in any colour and still not compromise their name go for the alternative strip.

We Are The NAVY BLUES.

Yep I'm with Zippy cause it has all the M&M colours in it

Actually why don't we just get the Cadbury marketing dept to design
it for us, so we can become a bigger laughing stock than last time

The more I see Jarusa's the more I like it. Should send it to the club.

:-D :-D

I think they're the jumpers a couple of former players thought they were wearing!

I understand what you're saying, but I just don't get it. Changing the colours doesn't even get close to registering on my care factor. If the change was to be a permanent thing, then yeah I'd get a bit more concerned, but really, it'll be in use only 3-4 times a year.

OK, I've been thinking about this.

A lot.

And I've changed my opinion.

I know. Shocking.

Here's the thing: We're going to be forced to have a jumper for "clash" matches, of which there are perhaps 4 in a season.

I think IF we have to produce one - and it looks like we will - then we have to make it totally different.

I mean TOTALLY.

Hell, let's go for a deep orange jumper with navy blue monogram and number, navy blue shorts with orange detail. The monogram has to be bigger and bolder, more in the style of the 1927-1997 one, but bigger again. But not huuuuuuge like the massive one.

Can someone mock that up for me?

And hasn't Collingwood actually changed their jumper 3 or 4 times in the last decade?

It's not money-grubbing by the Club. It's money grubbing from the AFL, who is the trademark holder of all AFL club logos, names, colours etc. Any money the club is likely to make is pennies compared to the windfall which would find it's way into Ron Evans'....I mean the AFL's pockets.
