Do we keep Megan Gale in this deal?

There's bound to be a separate Broodmare Sale happening somewhere....

Us without Judd = Melbourne now

No doubt in my mind.

There's no doubt in my mind that some of you are factoring in Carlton being shite as a given. If that sort of self fulfilling logic permeates at the club itself then it's no wonder things have turned out the way they have.

Having Judd at the club has meant that we keep putting off making the tough decisions. Whether that was a given, I don't know but it was predictable. I do know that we were in no position at the time to be pinning all our hopes on just one player. We never rebuilt our list to where it needed to be and that's the tragedy.

Don't agree

Judd had nothing to do with our recent poor recruiting or lack of player development. We have had ample opportunity to rebuild our list through early draft picks and additional resources. Simply not good enough

Handing over valuable picks of 17 & 19 for Grigg and Hampson are good examples of poor recruiting

I am confident we would be in a worse position now if Judd had never come to the club. We were a basket case in 2007. At least now there is a foundation for Mick to work from.

Re pick 3, I'm pretty sure Ratts said we'd have gone for Rhys Palmer.

In the end it doesn't matter who we picked we wouldn't have been able to develop them anyway

I'd still have her ahead of Makybe Diva at this stage, Fabio.

I was kind of hoping we'd get another 47 games out of him before Megan was required for Broodmare duties.

We also have 3 ex players playing regular senior footy elsewhere in Jacobs, Grigg and Russell for whom we got little or no compensation (for whatever reason or circumstance) That leaves a hole in the list.

The Judd trade was fair.... for both parties. Perhaps us in front a little in terms of marketing $$$'s that Judd has brought it!

But no more trading for big name guns. I prefer us to actually draft well for once. So many of our pics have failed.

Sure, there have been exceptions......... Yazz for one.

But for every Yazz there are 3 or 4 Lucas's.

Getting Judd stopped us from being shithouse.

We never built on the acquisition of Judd because our recruiting has not been up to scratch. Yeah sure we have picked up some good back flankers, forward flankers but we have not enhanced our structure. We have not acquired key position players with some combination of aerial judgement, football nous, speed, skill and with that added ingredient of having some shit in them. If they excel in one area they are let down in many other areas.

I think the broom will come out. First to go will be anybody that is only just serviceable and can only play in one area / position on the ground. I notice we are playing players in different areas in both the firsts and reserves. Specialist position players like a Warnock will most likely be safe as is someone who might be only be able to play on small defenders but they can do the job on the likes of a Milne or Rioli.

I think we will be targeting a free agent player from one of the lower clubs and also seeking a trade for a GWS or Gold Coast player.

Not having these two on our list is compensation enough.

If Fev made a fool out of Josh Kennedy at the Brownlow do you think we would have got a young Lachie Henderson and pick #12? :P

I don't think that's correct AGRO. West Coast were never interested in Paul Bower.

My memory was that we offered them Pick 3 & Pick 20 and they said they wanted a player as well and asked for Bower, we said no and then blinked and said OK you can have Kennedy. But happy to stand corrected.

The Judd camp made it perfectly clear to Carlton that picks 3 & 20 were sufficient compensation.

The Ablett compensation proved that to be correct; we ignored that advice... :banghead:

I haven't read the whole thread, but thinking in terms of end of year trades...

What about Nathan Vardy? Assuming his injury concerns are over (and I have NO idea if they are or are likely to be ongoing), he's a forward/ruck who can kick bags, take a strong contested mark and play second ruck. I read somewhere recently that Geelong is offering him a 1-year deal...we could trump that I would imagine.

Thoughts from those who know more about Vardy than I do?
