Sorry maca, I don't want to get personal, but there you go getting personal and are a sitting duck.

Sorry mate I'm man enough to admit I was being a smart arse. Got a bit carried away because I felt my original point was being missed and you were having a crack.

Camel boy has expressed it well in this thread anyway.

Next time macka, tell him he wouldn't know what he's talking about because he's not in Melbourne.

That usually works.

Forgot to mention at the time but at 3/4 time at the Bris game i noticed Goldspink (emerg umpire on the night) and umpire Head having a good old laugh while looking at the Carlton huddle. I had the binnocs on them and it looked very poor and unprofessional.

Umpires are like cops and waitresses/waiters, as soon as you mouth off you are stuffed.

Mouth off to a cop and they will add 15Km/h to your speeding fine on the spot.

Mouth off to a waiter/waitress and they will spit in your food.

Mouth off to an umpire and they will give you nothing.

Tell them you want your steak well done and you want it in a hurry then see what they do. :P

Never order the mornay sauce after complaining about the service either.

but we all know if you put your hands in the players back, even if they are only there for a split second and there is no force, you leave yourself open to the umpires interpretation

so why do players continue to put their hands in the back?

why can't they be smart enough to turn their body slighly sideways and use their hip or even their shoulder, to keep their opponent under the ball.

we are talking about highly paid professional footballers, surely they can see things are not working and they need to changes the way they go about things.

it's quite simple, if you are getting pinged for hands in the back, stop putting your hands in the back.

actually here is a novel idea, how about fwd's start playing from infront.

Try doing something one way for 10-20 years and then try to stop doing it that way in a couple of months. See how successful you are. It's not so easy is it. It'll take time to adapt - much time. It's not a simple rule change like kicking the ball 15 metres instead of 10 metres to ensure a mark is paid. Marking contests are very quick and instinctual.

btw, what the hell has how much a player gets paid got anything to do with putting your hands in someones back! Not trying to have a go at you in particular but I hate that argument. Our footballers are well under paid compared to professional athletes in other sports in other countries. Especially considering how much harder they have to work and how damaged their bodies get from playing the game. Someone like Greg Williams won't be able to walk properly when his 50 years old because he has no cartlidge in his knees. Is that worth a couple of million over his career?

i play footy, yeah its local footy and not afl and each year there are rule changes
i manage to adapt my game as do the majority of other players

you do it once you get a free paid against you
you do it again and a free is paid against you
you don't do it a third time as you have learnt

if afl players want to be professionals they need to learn to change with the rules, it's their responsibility to adapt their games, regardless of how ridiculous the rules are.

it's not hard to adapt to the rule changes, its just easier for the players to try and bend the hands in the back rule.
the other problem is that there is no consistency in the rule, so once again players try to bend the rules.

every profession has its injuries and drawbacks, afl footballers are well paid and well looked after.

what about data entry people, sitting infront of a computer screen all day, is that good for their eyes, how about the RSI they suffer?

what about the factory worker that works 6 days a week on a sewing maching for $28,000 a year, who suffers from carpen tunnel syndrome and struggles to hold a cup of coffee in their hand?

Look behind you camelboy...I'm here!

I'm in Melbourne right now!!

Next weekend I'll be at Carrara, and the weekend after that I'm in Adelaide...I get around...and have a guess who I be watching play footy? Are you reallu watching my moves, or are you second guessing?

Don't worry about where I live...it's where I'm at that matters.

But on a more serious note, I do consider myself a Melbourne boy because I am, and still consider Melbourne the centre of the universe (whilst Carlton is there), but choose to live on the beach for now...my only problem is that the ski fields are so far away from Bondi Beach...other than that...life is just a dream.

I reckon you should all have a look at Thornton at the moment. He hasn't learned, but what he does is shimmy-shimmy with his hands, like starts with his hand on the bum, then a bit on the back, then in the air and around again. I dont think he's learned, he's just trying to minimise contact.

Lucas will never learn but gets away with it.

Some players get picked up, some don't.

I tried to find where I was having a crack...I couldn't find it...maybe it's my response to "A sook is a sook"...which I agree with...not having a crack though...truly.

I was using that same logic to point out the theme of my original post/ this thread and stated that "Bias umpires are bias umpires"...soi thank you for the loan of the idea. I agree with your points on leadership etc....it's just the umpiring against Carlton in games that are worth 4 points that really shit's me, and I would prefer for the off field fraternity to stick up for the players rather than the players having to feel the need to stick up for themselves.

Anyway...I hope your teams kills the magpies on the weekend! :-D
