I posted this in another thread, I agree that quick players will be an improvement but we don’t need to go crazy drafting for “messiahs”, the hawks didn’t.
It wouldn’t matter if we had Harley Reid in our midfield instead of Cerra, we still would have lost with the game plan and desire we took into the final.
We need to rebuild our game plan around speed, handball chains and run, and ditch the “kick long down the wing” game plan.
Although it helps, you don’t have to have quickest runners to do this, you just need courage, dare, quick thinking and fast execution. We can do this with our current list and add players over the next few years organically. We don’t need to panic and trade Harry for Harley, or anything similarly stupid. Judd didn’t make a big enough difference and Harley, or Butters, or any other big name fast midfielder won’t either.
So two things I want to see in 2025 are less injuries (and therefore more continuity in our selected team) and a change to a game plan based on speed and dare.
i think that style of play, the addition of a few fast mids/ and electric small forward and i'd be pretty happy and excited for '25. i'm even happy to see young go around another season to see if he can build on the last 3 games of '24 he had.
... actually, if we got that i'd be elated. i don't have confidence this coaching staff can put ego aside and adapt and change and throw out all of the things that don't work.
