It may not be expensive though.

How much can it cost to sprinkle a few worms on the ground and let them go to work?

Obviously its not that simple, but I reckon between management and maybe you have a stubborn curator who'll only do things his way, they're just not prepared to listen.

At the moment, any real significant action that will take place will be the result of a serious injury sustained. Somebody could break their neck FFS and then something will be done when it's too late. It all comes back to the greed of the AFL and the stadium I think. Closing Waverley, who's surface had its fair share of bad injuries including our own, but it was never as bad as Etihad is now. Bullying Carlton into moving from Princes Park, where the surface is pristine to play on a ground with a concrete carpark underneath it. All for a few extra $$$ while not taking into account the health and safety of the footballers.
When a serious injury does happen, both parties will finger point at the other. The AFL will blame the stadium and vice versa. Expect a massive shit fight and many, many more repercussions other than an AFL player's life altered as a result of this injury. It's a ticking time-bomb- it's not a matter of if, but when.

Collo's lining himself up for a major headache this week with the Bledisloe Cup. Imagine those monsters digging their boots into the turf in the scrums.
Etihad is going to be a laughing stock and a major embarrassment to the state after this Saturday night I suspect.

You mention worms but clearly a major issue is the surface getting trashed by other events, and re-laid grass not having enough stress free time to root properly.

I share its pain.

Both Geelong and Carlton should start talking to the AFL now about moving the Round 21 game from Etihad to the MCG. It's a win win for everyone - the clubs, the AFL and Etihad. I've checked the MCG events calendar and can't see anything scheduled for that night that would stop the move from being possible.

Moving the game on Friday night to the MCG would mean that in Round 21 there would be 2 games at the MCG (Friday night & Saturday night) and 2 games at Etihad. Leave it as is and Etihad has 3 games that weekend - Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. It makes sense to make the move to the MCG and lessen the load on Etihad.

From a club point of view:
Geelong requested they play their home games at the MCG this year rather than Etihad. This is Geelong's only home game at Etihad. They have all their reserve seating sorted for the MCG so making the move would not trouble them or their sponsors at all. I'm sure Carlton would certainly prefer not to go back to Etihad.

From the AFL's point of view:
They will probably get more people attending at the MCG than Etihad especially given it's the last home and away game that Carlton are playing in Melbourne.

I hope our board tries to negotiate a way out of the contract. I don't think it is ironic that our worst patch of form has been at that stadium. All home games at the G from 2011, put that question in your members survey.

A move to the G would be a win-win for EVERYONE. The players, the supporters, the members, the club. They'd be crazy not to do it.
