Tadgh had a Gaelic football background which I think has helped him make the transition much better than either Setanta or Aisake will given their Hurling backgrounds.

And that is the BIG difference

Horsewallop- Ok Tadhg is from kerry which is a traditional footballing county and his old man was a fantastic player. Aisake has played football at the same level that tadhg did before he left. Just because the Ó hAilpín boys are more famous for their hurling does't mean they weren't good footballers back home. I have played against Aisake for 6 years and he was a pain in the behind to mark. He is quick and even though a bit awkward was fairly accurate. as well as playing intercounty hurling for cork he played minor football as well.

Munster Minor Football Round Robin - Cork 2-12 Kerry 1-11
(March 29th, 2003 - Páirc Uí Rinn)

Scorers:-
Cork: C Weste 1-4, 0-4f; J Shanahan 0-3; A O'hAilpin 1-0; B Cotter 0-2; J Hayes 0-2, 0-1f; S McCarthy 0-1
Kerry: G Dowling 1-2; D Doona 0-4, 0-3f; J Houlihan 0-3, 0-2f; D Breen 0-2

Setanta was also a menace in the local Cork County Football Championships. He was well known for getting goals for Na Piarsaigh.

O’Donovan Rossa 0-17 , Na Piarsaigh 1-9
This quarter-final of the tsb championship in a packed Clonakilty on Saturday evening last provided some great entertainment for the huge attendance and the standard was top-class all through. It was an unusual game in many ways as there wasn’t a kick of a ball between the sides for fifty minutes, with the sides level on no less than seven occasions.A lightning fast goal in the very first minute by super-star, Setanta Ó hAilpín, signalled the intentions of the city men and even though they were to score only one single point during the next twenty three minutes, they played some very good football in patches.

A lot of people here reckoned that before he went under that setanta would have done better than half the forward on the cork team in football. Sean Óg played in the All Ireland Football Final in 1999 V Meath but gavce up football to concentrate on hurling.

All of the Ó hAilpíns would be concidered to be very good footballers over here anyway so it's not like they weren't very good footballers before they went down under.

Thanks Kevin. That's actually made me feel a lot better about the prospects to pick up AFL.
I assumed that they would've played some football when they were younger but are obviously better known for their hurling exploits here in Oz.

Absolutely, we've seen plenty of "footballers" not get the most out of themselves because they just CBF.

How long until Aisake plays for the Bullants seniors? Can't recall Setanta ever playing in the Ants twos last year - is this a sign or do we just have a taller Bullants team this year given Batson, Bryan, Setanta and others?

When AIsake is actually up against the next tier (ie VFL) we should get a better view of what he can do. Given the players above, he may have to wait his turn

A mate of mine reckons they will make it. Apparently the breed them tough in their part of Ireland. Rates them very highly and absolutely refuse to rate Tadhg.

On a lighter note he has organised a game on International Rules this weekend against the local Gaelic boys. He kept telling me they wouldnt know what hit them because they dont tackle. Unfortunately after talking to a few of the other blokes after organising this game he discovered 4 or 5 have actually played against Aust in previous IR series. I suspect my teamates are going to cop another flogging (im away this weekend). He did manage to get one of these blokes to agree to play a game of AFL with us next weekend. Cant remember his name but apprently he play IR about 5 years ago. Shortish bloke with alot of tattoos. Do you know who he is Kevin.

Very true Molsey.
Batson is playing very little time in the ruck.
Setanta and Bryan are being developed to step in if Barney gets injured.
It would be frustrating for a developing ruckman to spend 90% of his gametime as a forward.
Aisake would stagnate in that environment.

Aisake is playing 2s so he can get plenty of gametime and plenty of time on the ball.
He is developing well.
He will be alright, we just need patience.
