Not saying gibbs is playing badly just that we think he is more value to the team as a halfbacker where he can find space to use his kicking and decision making. I see it as a step up for him from the scrapping role he has been playing. I am sure we can find a player to slam the ball on their boot in the packs to get the ball moving forward. Ellard can do it.
We are still struggling with loose ball in the back half and Gibbs will sure that up also. He will open up the backline for Yaz and Russ. We will have far more rebound.
In my opinion we will be a 3 goal better team with him delivering inside 50' off halfback.
..in the first two rounds, Gibbs was finding plenty of space, in fact i was surprised at how he keeps getting free, in the middle of the ground.. ..huge numbers of uncontested ball and I50 and assists.. in round 3 he was given a specific role vs pendles, and i reckon he did very well.. ..was also allowed loose later on the match..
..the main problem that i have with your wish of Gibbs across hbf is how much you want his game to revolve around creativity and less defense.. ..he might be great getting loose ball across hbf, but i much prefer his onball game to be a good split of defensive and attacking center work, and how so much of what you want him to achieve across hbf revolves around loose uncontested creative work.. ..every defender's game first revolves around beating their opponent, then creating run and drive when able.. ..an opposing coach just needs to direct footy traffic thru gibbs man to nullify any creativity from gibbs.. ..he's a smart footy player, but not super quick to burn off any defensive fwds placed on him..
..and ultimately, we simply dont have anywhere near enough quality rotating thru the middle to stick the gibblet on a hbf..
I think he a good defender. I cant remember anyone getting goals on him. He reads the play well and is good in the air. Also if the coach wants them to go through his man then that will open it up big time Yaz or it could go the other way around.
I dont think gibbs was that effective against the tigers . He was good but nothing that could not be replaced. I reckon he would have saved us a bunch of goals in defense. No point mentioning the GC game. They flooded back and he sat behind the ball getting plenty of touches.
I dont think he is a bad on baller i just think from a team point of view he would be more value at HBF where we can really use his attributes. I think he should want to play there. He wants to play onball and i reckon he deserves a chance to prove he can do it.
Lets hope it works for him and the team.
