After much prodding and nagging - the Board page of the website now looks something that resembles a professional outfit.
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/club/boardThe next step is some short Q&A's and perhaps some short video interviews about the various sub-committees and what they're working on. Without this level of transparency, supporters have no idea who is doing what and for what purpose. In today's society where newspapers are as guilty of creating stories from thin air as much as internet forums and twitter, it's important that the club continue to change the way they deliver content and more importantly, the type of content they deliver. After all - this is more than a football club. This is a business.
It's long been my view that the club should view each supporter as a potential investor. Not just another tier of income. If that's achieved, then they start acting like they are a publicly listed company. One that doesn't create a bubble around itself, and has to deliver on goals and report against outcomes. One that delivers on a level of transparency in order to keep that 'investor' as a return customer.
Customer retention only works with customer satisfaction. It
is about winning Premierships, but fans and the club alike need to realise that having professional off-field structures to your business model go hand-in-hand with winning Premierships.
My level of frustration with how things are done at Carlton is palpable. And no matter how much I hear from the board members I know on a first name basis that
'everyone works hard' and
'everyone is on the same page with the same goal' - there is a better way. Carlton will get there eventually. Sadly, we'll have wasted the better part of 20 years figuring it out.
