I was about to post that at the time but thought I might be making it up...

Last week after Yarran and Garlett kicked goals in the last quarter, Anthony Hudson said something like "gee they can really play those.....small forwards the blues have down there"

It's newspeak.

 and during the WC game the commentators were just falling short of saying Armfield was an honorary black because he could run fast

I think you are being very unfair to Melbourne, they had a big crack and were harder at the footy than they have been all year, it wasn't their effort that beat them.

Apologies Jim, I wasn't sure how to get around the quotation limitation thing in my earlier post.

I was referring to the above

That's ok. I sounded like that you were.

What was with that weird bit in the third q with robbo not moving it on out of defence and waiting for the rubbish handball to simmo? Bizarre footy that. Other than that it was good, provided no injuries.

That was just Robbo being Robbo, sometimes the brain just doesn't work or he over thinks the situation and confuses himself and everyone else.

Missed the waite incident but on the replay like sydney blue didn't think it was as bad as I'd heard.

I don't think the incident in isolation is that big a deal.

It's more that he consistently puts himself under that sort of scrutiny and everyone's fairly !@#$%& sick of it considering how many games he actually plays.

I'll be disappointed if he misses next week but longer term I just have no faith in him these days and basing our forward line around a guy who's either injured or suspended is both necessary and stupid.

Agree GWS, love Jarrad Waite when he is up and going, but we never seem to be able to get a consistent season out of him, he has missed 97 games due to injury and is now 30, can't build a forward line around him in 3 years time, we have to keep looking for his replacement.

Yeah, nah, it just confirms that the experts are here and the chumps and wannabes are running the club.

Yeah Camel, I watched Mick's press conference then thought I would come in here to see what the real experts had to say

In the first quarter I think it was, the ball was kicked long to a pack, Warnock didn't try to mark but tapped it down to one of the Amigos who ran into an open goal. Just about brought a tear to an old blokes eye, shades of Big Nick (yeah I know that's where the similarity ends, but good stuff).

Don't know how you can be disappointed with a 10 goal win, Melbourne showed a lot more ticker than in any of their previous games.

Watching MM in the box it didn't look like he even worried about the score.

Apart from a short period in the last, when it looked like he was having a good q+a ( with himself  ) I don't think he raised an eyebrow.

We certainly get a bit more insight into the games post-match with Mick...

Couldn't get to the game (went to that Empire's Spiegelworld at crown... magnificent show!)... so watched the replay last night.

I much prefer to watch live footy as you get so much more than what the cameras show you...

My outtakes -

Hampson can be summed up as - it was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. Loved the way he monstered some marking contests, hated the way he kicked for goal. Although it seemed as though a light flicked on in his head after his first foible in the first quarter, as if "i better do better or i'm dropped". I just don't know about Hampson... judgement reserved.

Walker - Surely has gone into the elite bracket... he is out-Deledio'ing Brett Deledio. Absolutely superb level of football from 1AW. Has consistently delivered in every game, and does it at all areas of the park. Hats off! (boom-tish!)

Lucas - Continues to impress. He does a few things which need to be improved, but he also does many things which are great.

Robinson - Loved his game. Adrian Hickmott would be proud.

Curnow - Continues to impress. Has improved from a bottom six player.

Ellard v Cachia - If you keep one of these two, I suggest it's Cachia. In his limited time he just looked better, more poised with great skill. Ellard for a full game got 16 disposals and Cachia got half that in a quarter. Ellard 62% ED vs Cachia 88%.

Garlett must be pushing top 5 B&F so far this year. Outstanding.

Simon White - Was a wrap for him coming into this season and good to see him really attack the contest. He must surely be keeping Laidler out of it at the moment. Great game.

The other usual suspects were good. I hope Waite doesn't get cited but that was a clear headbutt... and deserves to be looked at. Mind bogglingly dumb.

It was good coaching

Not all sides will get sucked into leaving goal side open . Need another string to our bow

Totally agree SB. I don't think many finals a going to be won with this tactic. Looks good against average opponents, but the top teams will clog things up.

We still need marking forwards other than Eddie. (If he was 20cm taller, IMO, he would just about be the greatest forward ever - even as is I'd back him to outmark a lot of taller players on our list).

He's a master of dealing with the media and using his press conference to deliver whatever message he wants.

I liked his comments on Waite and Hampson. For anyone struggling to understand what we're trying to do up forward, have a listen and think about his emphasis on creating a contest, not being one dimentional and bringing other players into the game.

Obviously he'd have been aware of the Bronx cheers Hampson was receiving so I wonder if it was a little message to supporters.

Are we now living in a fantasy world where Hampson was creating strong contests, bringing the ball down to the advantage of our small forwards and unsettling defenders.
The reality is that he was missing uncontested marks, not impacting on the marking contest, being pushed off the ball and allowing defenders to sweep away with ease.
He STILL remains unable to kick a goal that isnt from the goal square.
He 2nd half against the worst team in the AFL was better but lets not get carried away

Back in town just in time to see the match.
A reasonable result.

Positives, our kickouts are much improved and Murphy is hitting his straps. Brock continues to offer great value to the team and Jamo is back to career best form.
Its amazing how good he can be when his body holds together.
Also great to see Warnock show some improvement.

Areas to work on, our stoppage work is still average and we're still struggling to contain the opposition on kick outs. West Coast scored 3 of their 7 goals from kick outs. A poor result.

Negatives, the Carlton crowd jeering Hampson when he took a mark. Disgraceful. The bloke may be struggling to hold his marks but he's creating a contest and he's busting his arse. Pathetic to see supporters treat one of their own players in that manner.

Hope so, but he couldn't beat Richmond.

Yes but Ratts couldnt win more than 4 in a season...... youre not going to get very far if your players fall at every hurdle...

4 in a season?

What are you on?

sequence.

sometimes a mind must expand abit to just get into the sync of whats going on around you baz baz...
Otherwise people must need to spell everything out to you and leave no stone unturned... you do understand this right?
And no i dont mean literal stones being unturned.....
Its an idio(t)ms

Crap,,,,, you meant to say row and you said season. Now I would call that an idiotism
