In the Elliott days we would have signed Judd over from the West Coast at age 30 at $1million pa for 3 years and called it a recruiting coup.

I loved this in the email from the club

"Chris Judd - Carlton’s greatest player of the 21st century ..."

Good news. And if he stays injury free, it should take him to more games with the Blues than with West Coast.

Great news. Well done to all involved.

As I've said before, honestly thought he might not go around again. Very, very happy he is.

Hopefully we can reach the ultimate while he is still around.

Great job Juddy, putting the club ahead of deeper pockets. Lets hope we use that money wisely.

It's already been mentioned, but here's the salary cut story from The Age:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/j ... 2jaqv.html

Quote:
From now on, both parties will reassess where they stand annually. Another profound change is that Judd, having previously enjoyed the status of being the AFL's highest-paid footballer, has agreed to take a significant wage cut in 2014 - close to halving his annual earnings for playing, according to a source with first-hand knowledge of the new contract.

..great news.. ..one year contracts at this age [and the battered miles in the legs] is the best way to go, and big paycut will help the team out as well.. .... ..Juddy needed worry about future job opportunities, am sure there's always gonna be a job for him in AFl at some level, whether at club level or especially at AFL house.. .... ..not to mention his other hobbies.. ....so there's not the grab for cash, nest egging that plenty of other veterans may look towards..

..future on field roles, i reckon he's gonna be mixing main duties with 'role playing'.. ..not run-with, but decoy fwd and rotating fwd/back flanking roles yes definitely..

Actually come to think of it, that's still not quite true. Judd's been a remarkable player for us, but I've yet to see him (or anyone) reach the levels that Kouta did for that stretch in 2000.

Actually 2000 is still in the 20th century.

21st century started 1/1/2001...

Regardless of semantics Judd's output has been greater than Kouta's post and including 2000 for us. Though I would agree Kouta in 2000 was something else.
