Anyway, someone tell me about Don Pyke. He's winning the poll at the moment on TC. What's his deal. Where's he been, what's he done?

OK scrap that. I just read his Wikipedia bio.

Decorated playing career obviously, but here's his coaching palmares. Looks gret!

Unfortunately he pulled out of the running for the Collingwood job saying he was happy in Sydney. So might be a tough get.

"In 1999, Pyke became the senior coach of Claremont until his resignation in 2000. He then became a director at West Coast for four years from 2001. In 2003, Pyke was rewarded for his contribution to the West Coast Eagles with life membership. In late 2004, Pyke resigned from the Eagles' board of directors to become an assistant coach to Neil Craig at Adelaide, whom he had previously interviewed for the Eagles' job.[9] In late 2006, Pyke resigned as Adelaide's assistant coach after two seasons to return to Western Australia, and concentrate on his business.[10] He has two daughters with his wife, Jodie. Pyke was named in West Coast's Team of the Decade, in 1996,[11] and Team 20, in 2006.[12] In October 2013, he was made an assistant coach at West Coast under the new senior coach Adam Simpson, specialising in "strategy, stoppages, and structure".[13]

The highlighted speaks to me.
On 9 October 2015, Pyke was appointed as the head coach of the Adelaide Football Club, succeeding the late Phil Walsh who was murdered midway through the 2015 AFL season.[2][14] The Crows made the semi-finals in his first season as coach but were defeated by the Sydney Swans. In 2017 Pyke coached the Crows to their second McClelland Trophy and led them to their first AFL Grand Final since 1998, where they were defeated by Richmond by 48 points. On 12 September 2019, Pyke resigned as head coach of the Adelaide Crows.

In October 2020, it was announced that Pyke would join the Sydney Swans as an assistant coach from the 2021 season.[1]"

I think you'll find he pulled out after being informed he was no longer in the running...

Interesting. I'm under the belief that he didn't apply and politely refused to be involved.

To be fair, my point above is just my interpretation. If you (or others) have actual info, that would obviously be more relevant.
(FWIW, I assumed that Pyke withdrew when he realised he wasn't going to win the role, and that Lyon withdrew from the Pies race b/c either he believed he was a shoo-in for the Carlton role, or because he didn't want to take on a rebuild like the Pies will be going through, or because he didn't want to be put through any protracted process b/c "he has 13 years of track record" as his application...?
And the latter is also the reason he pulled out of the Carlton role, or else he was ultimately told that the Board would ultimately rule against him...

I thought he might have been a good option before we got Bolton. So maybe it will turn out we have wasted a few years.

So why have we got Voss short listed do you think Azza? Even ports footy manager is saying he wants an answer from Voss otherwise they will have to make a decision on him. Surely we are not putting him through the process for nothing again.

A lot of dotted lines there 17th.

I remember what "thought" did.
Stuck a feather in the ground and "thought" he'd grow a rooster.

Rumour on BF from someone quite credible. Clarksons manager told us today, that he is not interested.

I am ok with that. Most important person to get now is Cook so he can help us pick the right guy.

We cant force Clarkson any more, if his heart is not in it then it wont work out.

I dont see a concern with getting someone who wasn’t a head coach before, but we need to get the right guy. Hopefully Williams, Parkin and I am hoping cook enough of a footy brain to choose the right guy.

But the concern is getting experience around the head coach. Collingwood got the support right, not sure there is enough experience we can get now.

WE need Assistant Coaches.

Soft salary cap limits how many of the good ones are offered a job.

I'm sure there's plenty good ones out there .. maybe a couple are still in the hunt for the 2021 Flag.

Leppa wasn't doing anything last year. Bolton was with the Hawks. Who would have thought Bolton?

There's gems out there...just gotta get the right team.

I agree Bondi. Whoever we choose, ex head coach or not. We just need to choose the right guy, with the right philosophies. This is how important it is that we get the right CEO first and foremost.

Good footy Brains in Williams, Parko and Cook? They are the most important.

While it would have been good to get Clarkson, he simply doesnt seem to want to come so we need to move on.

I would try and convince Brad Scott, but if that is gone too, we have no choice but to go through the untried route again.
