My Josh Fraser hoodie arrived today. I’ll have a dilemma if he doesn’t get the job

Maybe the back end of the season is the interview process? Why go through a formal sit-down powerpoint presentation dog and pony show - just look at how he interacts with players, his assistants, footy club staff, media etc and decide if that is the person we want or not.

For all we know the cunning bugga has already started his Round by Round Powerpoint Presentation, starting from Game 9, Round 10, proving his methods work.
Each presentation page consists of Situational Analysis SWOT/ Aim in the game/ Plan for team/ KPI's for each player/ Success- Failures/ Projection

By the end of the year, he can show he met every KPI, every game, whilst developing a young team and coaching them to win games and make Finals/ Second Last page The Cup/ Last Page: What else do you want from your next coach?

I mean, i don't know if he is the right guy or not. But surely a live action job interview over a 10 week period is better than a hypothetical 'what I would do if given the chance' interview process? The guys making the call on this are going to see him in action and be able to decide if they reckon he has it or not.

I understand the theory Heavs and I don't really know what is involved in a coaching aspirant's "presentation", but I definitely think the selection panel would still need to hear his broader philosophies on the game, its trends, list management, as well how they specifically relate to our group. Whether they all hoodie up and do that in small talk after yet another win while Cotts is playing the blues on his harmonica in the background, or in the context of a formal interview, I guess that's up to GWCD.

he's like everything we've been looking for.

plays the modern game, develops the kids, is calm and thats become contagious to the group. encourages guys to be themselves.

suddenly we're learning that we don't have a team full of introverts, they were just too scared to be themselves.

cue harmonica music.

He is SO calm. Whenever they cut to him in the box he has basically the same expression on his face.

And I said this before but I like him not being on the boundary line stressing like Voss did.

Jaymie Graham and Corey Enright will need to be pretty good - because Josh is looking pretty good to me.

No doubt he'll take a "considered approach"

Can’t we just accept he has the job?

This will a good test Saturday, both on the ground and tactically in the box. Mitchell is cunning. We’ll learn a lot. Beats watching a good movie!

This is the Main Event. The Feature.

A Movie is just a filler.

Will be fascinating.

All things "considered" its not just about the win either. Cracks me up.

Would have preferred it if he stated from the start that he's interested in becoming a senior coach and if invited to be a part of any process then he'll put his hand up for it.

The 'I'm not ready' line I never knew what to make of. He's clearly ready. But on the flip side, I'm not hiring anyone lacking confidence in their ability.

Doc I completely agree with you here. Everyone is saying he is playing it beautifully by saying what he is saying.

But i want a confident, strong leader that comes out and says it how it is. And doesnt play games.

If you want to coach us, then come out and say it and back yourself.. Say you want to be part of the process at the very least.

A well considered response Doc

I agree. Send him a message by not inviting him. He wants to be at Carlton next year as it is.

Is it possible the club has instructed him to say that? Try and avoid any distraction or media circus. Just let him focus on coaching. Hasn't really worked out that way but is that a possibility?

He might be worried that if he throws his hat into the ring we might start losing again

He may well just be being honest and also keeping the focus on the team and also smart by positioning his impending coaching experience as the one key ingredient that is essential for the job (but which only he will have by the end of the season).
When he took over, he may not have felt he was ready - lacking the most important ingredient: senior AFL coaching experience.
Through the 13-14 matches in charge, he will have added that final piece he was looking for to round out his experience. And the very thing that his competitors for the role will not have - real AFL senior coaching experience.
Now (towards the end of August...) he is now confident and will enter the process. Not so controversial, IMO.

Also, I don't feel like I need to hear everything going on inside the head of everyone (or coach) in football in order to be convinced they are serious. I am perfectly happy if he is saying one thing in media conferences and a different thing behind closed doors at the club. Not everything he says to the media is proof of what he really thinks and intends to do. I also wouldn't expect the list boss to come out and say we are gunning for Jagga Smith during trade week and giving the other teams the heads up.)

At the end of the day, I am comfortable that GW and CD have it under control.

I would hope that the process addresses not just 'the modern game' but anticipating, adapting and proactively developing the modern game which will change over time.
And phrases. He needs to evolve his phrases over time. 'Get after it' got a bit tired by 2025....

Yep, I suspect there's a fair bit of PR management going on. Mainly due to the timing of Voss' departure and the 3 month+ caretaker period Josh and the club have to negotiate.

If he had declared an interest already the media hyperbole would be properly off the charts right now. They'd be pumping him up so much that it would likely hinder our timeline and quite probably deter other candidates, or lose to the Hawks, and they'll start the death ride (we may yet see this).

You're right that the media is still hyping him up but at least they can only speculate, for now at least.

I reckon the club wants as much clean air as they can get while they can (there may not be much left). This lets them progress the search for our next coach as per their plan and timeline. Clearly winning 7 games in a row is a very good thing, but I don't think anyone inside the club expected this and it has meant the media hype around Josh continues to build.

Also, Josh's responses have been slowly evolving over the last few weeks, starting with the original "yeah, nah I'm not interested" to a softer, "do you ever know when you're ready?"

Let's see what the messaging from him and the club is after the Collingwood game. There'll be 4 H&A games left and the results in the next 2 games will have a big bearing on our finals-lite possibility and the future of Fraser as a declared candidate.
