Charlie Curnow to undergo surgery

Charlie Curnow will undergo surgery after sustaining a stress injury to his patella.
By Carlton Media - Just now

Carlton forward Charlie Curnow will undergo surgery tomorrow after sustaining a stress injury to his patella.

The 23-year-old injured his right patella last week while completing his rehabilitation program.

Head of Football, Brad Lloyd confirmed this is the same knee that Curnow had surgery on in April.

“Charlie’s patella has been complicated by this current stress injury, however whilst he has been able to continue with his rehabilitation program, his specialist orthopaedic surgeon feels that surgery to reinforce the area of bone stress will hasten his return to training and minimise the risk of further injury.

“We’re fully supportive of this approach and will continue to support Charlie through his recovery process.”

The Club will provide further comment following the surgery.

Ohhhh Charlie.
Please don't do this to us....and yourself.

Three times now on that same patella.
Plus issues before AFL.

We all have our fingers crossed.

Not looking good.
Maybe he hasn't been drinking enough milk and eating sardines and has a calcium deficiency.

Brittle as Biscuits

We can cover him....for another year ... just.

Your arse just got saved Gov, and we need you Levi.

I'd rather be a bit more optimistic. He'll miss some footy but I'm expecting him to get some games next season.

I'm sure he'll eventually get back. But I'm pessimistic we'll ever see the Charlie that 'might have been'. Such a shame. I was just wondering how many games Harry and Charlie have actually played together.

Ahe best to Sam

Club statement: Sam Docherty

Co-captain Sam Docherty has undergone surgery for a malignant testicular tumour.
By Carlton Media - Just now

CARLTON co-captain Sam Docherty has undergone surgery for a malignant testicular tumour after recently discovering a cancerous lump.

Head of Football Brad Lloyd said the surgery - conducted last Friday - went well, with 27-year-old Docherty expected to make a full recovery.

“The surgery went well and we’re incredibly pleased that it’s expected Sam will recover fully," Lloyd said.

“Obviously Sam’s health remains the Club’s number one priority and we will continue to support him throughout this time."

Speaking after his surgery, Docherty shared the importance of seeking prompt medical advice and encouraged others to regularly get checks.

“Obviously hearing the initial diagnosis was a shock, however I feel grateful to have got onto it straight away," Docherty said.

“Having now had the surgery, I’m grateful to hear that I’m expected to make a full recovery and will be able to resume training in four to six weeks’ time.

“Talking about our health and wellbeing and ensuring we get regular checks is so important, and I hope to use this as a reminder for others to look after themselves and also to support others who may be going through similar experiences."

The Club will not be making any further comment and asks for privacy to be respected during this time for Sam and his family.

This thread needs to be killed with fire, and the ashes sown with salt.

Interesting.

Charlie could have played last 3 rounds in Sept.
He obviously got match fit by then.
Russell knows what he's doing, and we know he errs the side of caution.
He takes a conservative approach. It is safer.

New surgeon who knows how to fix the fracture to avoid risk in the future.

Charlie misses NOV, DEC & JAN.
His Preseason may start in Jan, but in top gear FEB.

His preseason under Russell's guidance strats FEB.
The full on preseason campaign (like Govs blocks last year but multiplide by 2) FEB MAR APR.

He could be back in April, not afetr it.

You've got a good point there Dane.
If the season is delayed earlier than last year, Charlie may play Round 1 in April or May.

Either way, Charlie should be back in the 2nd half of 2021 in readiness for our Finals Campaign.

Wonder if we'll see them play together?
Seems like longer than forever
Will Charlie take the field with Ed
Who can say but it's messing with my head
8 years younger than the other
Perhaps he's not the smarter brother
They'll say he's unlucky, fella
Charlie needs a new patella. Ella. Ella. Eh. Eh eh.

Been a long week.

Quote:
The Blues are now hopeful Curnow will resume running after Christmas following his latest setback, having deemed last Wednesday's surgery to correct a stress injury to the patella in his right knee a success.

Curnow was originally expected to resume skill work when pre-season training returns for sixth-year players in January, but it's understood that stage of his recovery could be pushed back up to two months following his latest bout of surgery.

It puts his chances of a round one return in severe doubt, with the Blues expected to be ultra-cautious with Curnow's comeback following more than a year on the sidelines with continued knee injuries.

We look forward to continuing his epic journey with Carlton's towards the 17th Cup

The imposing and athletic key forward remains one of the club's and the competition's most promising young players, having kicked 77 goals throughout the first 58 games of his AFL career.

I would like to request an updated edition post Charlies first goal in 2021. It might have been a long week but I am all for budding poets.
