"Champion Data, the official statistician of the AFL, has worked to redefine kicking measurements.
For years they have charted kicking efficiency and will continue to do so. But those pure efficiency figures can sometimes give a slant towards defenders who gain high readings by chipping to unmarked teammates at short range. This year, Champion Data has employed two extra statisticians at each match to chart the "Hit Rate" - the percentage of kicks that hit targets taking into account the difficulty of the kick. Each kick is measured by five characteristics - distance, direction, intent, target zone and pressure. This new measurement will complement the pure efficiency ratings."
Below is the top 100 after Round 8 ...
K: Kicks. E: Expected rate (%). HR: Hit Rate (%). R: Rating.
(A higher Expected rate (E) means a player attempts easier kicks; a lower figure means he often tries the impossible. The higher the Rating, the better the kicker is performing.)
