Should I not be dismayed at him being left out of the NAB Cup side?

Shouldn't a fully fit and bulked up 2004 #9 draft pick be given an opportunity in the 2006 pre-season senior comp to show what he's got?

What gives DP?

Couldn't agree more, especially when the likes of Wiggins and Prendergast make the squad in front of him.

Time to give the kid a go, a real go not just a few minutes here and there. Disappointing not to see him named.

I think you have to trust DP on this one, do you think if JR was primed to go, mentally and physically Pagan would have left him out?????

If Pagan is under instructions to go for the cash again, then there's probably only a couple of spots for the untried youngsters. He's probably not in competition with Hartlett or Setanta for a spot, but it may have been between him and Blackers for a run. Blackers has been quite impressive so far in the pre-season, and is deserving of his chance.

No need to start worrying about Russell yet.

I agree that I'd rather he was in the team then not but don't you think you're over-reacting just slightly? I hardly think that Denis has forgotten about him fellas, I don't think the fact that he is not in the squad for round one of the NAB Cup consigns him to permanent obscurity. Who knows, maybe he'll play next week? I reckon we should just worry about the players in the side for the given match.

But would he get a real go or just be on & off the ground? May be better off getting a full game in the 2's.

Far from the worst player in the AFL.

He can play a role, it just isn't as a key defender or a relieving ruckman. He was shot last season when he started as a ruckman. Play him in a run with role on taller midfielders and the shorter/mobile ruckmen and he's fine.

How many other teams would he get a game with ?
I would suggest a number less than 1.

You can probably say that about 10 players of every list.

Who thought Simon Fletcher, or worse Adam Pickering, would have got a game with anyone else?

It is frustrating to watch last nights NAB Cup match between Brisbane & Essendon* and see Clark, Ryder, Wood, Monfries, Dempsey etc all having a run whilst we can't find a spot for Russell.

Were asking Russell to play a different role to what he was when we drafted him.
He is low on confidence.

That might be the case, but leaving him out of the side doesn't
exactly help his confidence either, does it? I think he should be
given a run, especially in the nab games

Why bother drafting him if that's the case.

I disagree with the prevailing school of thought here. Give Prenda and Davis the four weeks of the NAB cup to prove, once again, that they've got nothing to offer. And then when the real stuff starts they can go straight on the Do Not Play (DNP) list for the season, and JR can be brought in instead.

Heard something interesting last night, some of the younger players have voiced theer concern about the lack faith and confidence shown by one DP. Apparently some of the younger players have turned to Libba and he has taken up a mentor role with these players at his own will along with Terry Daniher, i can say definately one of the players is our big irish man he struggles to communicate with Dennis.

Were turning into a North Melbourne where winning each game is life or death.
If the powers to be forget about losing and winning and concentrate on just building platforms this club will be in a healthier state in 3 years than resembling North Melbourne.
