Hmm...Sounds like Waite may get the nod at CHB...Don't mind the idea although i would rather still see him on a wing or up forward for match up reasons...

Certainly worth giving Waite a run at CHB , nothing to lose, and still got Digby as back up, and Norman may still come into the team if Sporn or Archie don't come up.

However I can't remember seeing Waite playing in defence, has anyone else? How did he go?

yeah, we look a bit light-on for key defenders....... Livo on Sav, Digby on Thompson.......... that means we'll need to cover McKernan/Petrie somehow. Maybe Waite, but I wouldn't drop him into a spot he's not used to....

maybe Kouta at CHB is an option. I would like to see Karl in the team for balance, but maybe there is a message that needs making to him. I hope he's back in for the Scum match.

Maybe Prenda's inline for a defensive matchup?

While McKernan seems to have overcome his injury scare, Laidley said the big man's match fitness was the deciding factor.

"He's right to play, he'll play for Port Melbourne tomorrow," he said.

I hope not. Prender's best work is running on the ball as the around-the-ground ruck, running off his man, and there for clearances.

Must be someone like Waite or Kouta.... or maybe play Teague on a tall and run his man ragged.. (though hope not)

With Karl out, IMO Prender will be our other tall defender for this game. He really needs to be able to find a niche in our side instead of being a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none type. Might be a good chance to see if he can make it as a defender.
We already have too many players that can fill the midfield roles better than he can. He hasn't done too badly the few times he has played in defence for us in the past- if memory serves he's done alright playing on the likes of Richo and Lucas before.

Would be very happy to have Prenda up back for this game, we need a big strong body in the packs.

Didn't Archie play back a bit late last season?

He'd match up nicely on Thompson I'd think.

I reckon there's a pretty strong chance that Teague will take one of the Kangaroo talls. He nearly always plays on the taller types, and even though they dwarf him in centremetres, he matches most with his courage, body work and aerial strength. (It's really the quicker types that trouble Teague, not those who are signifcantly taller.)

I would guess that De Luca would be the next in line, rather than Kouta or Waite. Kouta has lost a little athleticism, and struggles to match them on the lead. And while Waite has the athleticism, he lacks the experience and 'smarts' to play down back. (In fact, I don't remember ever seeing him play in defence!)

They'll want Kouta to play midfield as an 'extractor'. And they'll want Waite to play the role he's had since the end of last year, namely, leading tall forward, who applies good defensive pressure on rebounding defenders.
