The thing is Brett was in alot of pain and as dumb as this may sound with knee injuries the more pain your the damge is not as bad, when a player does his AC ligament it is not as painfull than the medial, Also if Brett has to have surgery on the medial ligament he could be out for upto 8 to 10 weeks maybe 12, if he avoids surgery 4 to 6 weeks.

The thing is Livo was gaining confidence with each game without T-bird this could either make or break Livo, lets hope he shows us just what he is made out of like he has the past 3 games.

Think your sort of correct there, Ive had two re-co,s ,the first injury being extreemly painful with damage/destruction of the medial, cartilage and A/C, whilst the second was just the A/C again with much less pain. I believe that once the A/C has completly snapped, the pain subsides considerably, if not goes away completely whilst tears in the ligaments /cartilage are very painful and continue to be so until it repairs itself. So dont judge the severity of the injury by the pain level, or lack of, as he may have multiple injuries/damage to various parts of the knee. Great pain could still be a tear in one ligament and the complete severance of another. :( [/quote]

It didn't look like an ACL from the coverage, his knee went in and not out, out usually results in an ACL.

As I mentioned to a few last night where I was watching, time for Norman and Digby to stand up.

I haven't seen the replay yet, so didn't really see what happened to T-Bird. All I saw was a big pack of players and a few bodies collide. Did someone fall across his leg?

prenda crashed into the side of it

Yes Prenda crashed into the side of his knee bending the joint inwards.

This shows the mechanism of injury which pretty well mimics what happened to Thorntons knee- although there did not appear to be a huge amount of "twist" more of a side on collision, however Thornton was in the middle of tackling Judd, so he was spun around a split second after the collission.

From a good source: He'll be back round 3, 4 at the latest.

It actually gives Karl a chance to put up or shut up, therein lies the opportunity.

Will he take it?

That's great news EB. The Roos, Bummers and Pies aren't huge losses without Thornton considering Lloyd is out and Livo did a reasonable job on Lucas last time they met.

If he's back Round 4 then that would be great and we'd have a chance of being 3-0 or at worse 2-1 at that stage and give it a good fight against Port

Mmmmm, I'm not sure returning against PA would be ideal. Even without Pickett, they are a physically capable side. And the week after might not be ideal either, given the long flight each way to WA and the sunbaked surface.

The latest from the Herald Sun (good news):

Quote:
CARLTON defender Bret Thornton has escaped serious damage to his right knee, injured in a mishap with teammate Ian Prendergast on Saturday night.

Scans yesterday confirmed the injury was a torn medial ligament, Pagan said last night.

"He has escaped any ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) damage (which would have required a reconstruction), so that is very pleasing," Pagan said. "Brett will see a specialist on Tuesday morning and he will decide whether he needs to wear a brace or requires surgery.

"We don't know yet whether it is a grade two or grade three tear, so I can't tell you how long he will miss."

Officials said immediately after the game that Thornton was likely to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.

Thornton injured his knee when Prendergast fell across him halfway through the last quarter.

His knee was tightly bandaged and he was on crutches when he accepted his premiership medal.

Let's hope that Bret does not require surgery.

Doesn't say too much more than in fja's link above. Tomorrow will bring more concrete news by the sounds of things.

Anyone have any more news on this? I'll tell you one thing, if there is a player at Carlton who would do 100% of the required work and then some for a full recovery it would be T-Bird.

Thanks Prez. I must admit, I thought it would be longer.

Get better soon T-Bird!!

I just posted elsewhere that Josh Fraser will also be missing for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury. Hurt against the Swans on the weekend.

One player that we could not afford to miss.
Will be interesting to see the progress of Livingston, Norman & Morrell over the coming two months.

I am glad that Luke has been given the responsibilities he has had over the past 8-10 matches. His confidence is up and he is believing in himself.

You never know, as our only true key defender out there for the next few months it might just be the making of him.
