Nobody really talking about the short break v long break.
I think it could become a factor.

2 days extra to prepare and recover makes a difference

Last time we played them Martin kicked 3 and Motlop kicked 2. The media only seems to know about Saad and McGovern, but these two are huge outs. We need so much more from our small forwards, both in terms of goals and forward pressure to lock the ball in and prevent the opposition goals coming from D50 transition

I’m pretty confident that the message for this week will be ‘defensive effort’.
In the back half, this will limit their scoring opportunities and provide a launchpad for our transition game.
In the midfield, this will limit their clearance effectiveness and open up good F50 entries.
In our forward line, this will stop their rebound (and limit their transition game) and will give us multiple looks at scoring. THIS, more than any brilliance by our forwards, will generate the winning score we are looking for.

We have the personnel to apply this sort of pressure and we also have the talent to capitalise on the opportunities that our defensive pressure will offer us.

No excuses.
For the rest of the year.

We will barely lose a clearance. Just a matter of whether our defensive efforts and forward conversion stands up.

Just realised this is the first game for the season that both Walsh and Cerra have played. I reckon this will play a big part in giving us better connection between our inside mids and the forward line

It's also a rare game where we've got the 5 mids.

Walsh
Cerra
Cripps
Kennedy
Hewett

do we have any back flankers in the twos who can step in? it's a big night for cowan. hope he's ready.

Cincotta?

yes! that's who i was forgetting about. i'd swap him for young for a lockdown role on maybe shultz. if we can take out one of their smalls maybe team defence can do the rest.

Yep exactly what I was coming on to say. Young out for Cincotta. Schultz, Elliott and Hill are the threats. Weiters can take Mihocek. Even though he gives up about a foot in height, I'd rather let Kemp have Cox than Young. He might clunk a couple but Kemp will run off him once it hits the deck.

I think the pies will almost concede the centre bounce clearances but will favour creating dirty clearances for our mids and look to slingshot from defence. Let's see if Voss and co have a plan for this.

The tactical battle will be fascinating to watch.

I don't believe the 3 tall forward is helping our defensive game. Left wing selection, I'd drop Young and play TDK on Cox and Pitto on Cameron. TDK plays defence on Cox and goes into the ruck against him. If Cameron goes forward, Weiters can take him and Kemp goes to Mihocek.
If I was McRae, I'd get Mihocek to get up the ground and drag Weitering away from goal, relying on Cox and Elliot to get the ball to ground for Hill, Schultz etc. Playing TDK back there gives us an intercept marking option.

Fantasia/ Cerra in for Young and Ollie.

Reckon he’s a bit loose defensively. Plus I don’t really think there’s a matchup for him. Filths biggest threat is their small forwards and wingers sliding forward

He gets dropped a lot. Like you I always think he is unlucky but he is obviously not doing what he is asked to do.

Young had a shocker but I’d still have him in for this one unless Marchbank was available. Who else would you play on Cox/Cameron? We need a bit of height to help Weiters out
