Especially impressed by our composure in last 2 mins. Twelve months ago we would have lost that game with 2 minutes to go. But we able to steel ourselves and shut it down just as we we were all feeling that Brisbane had the momentum and might run over us. End of last season we learned how to win the close ones and nowwe believe.
Absolutely delighted and energized, subdued of course about the news about Doc. Not fair

Will re read Bondi’s war and peace post a couple of pages back to remind myself about positivity and about what matters. Great post Bondi

I loved the Blues Brothers in the crowd. Were they wearing official CFC ‘suits’?

I noticed on the boundary in the last minute one of the signs that was put up was your hand single in your avatar Lowey. Anyone know what it means?

a lions sign ... it must mean go for broke, everyone forward? bcos their whole 18 were forward of the centreline.

i think your're right braithy, basically rock on

Watched the replay and it was a Lions official with the sign.

A Bluebagger workmate asked me Friday how I thought the Blues would go in Brisbane.
I said while hopeful, Carlton will do what Carlton does.
That may be very good or it may be shithouse.

I didn't expect both extremes in the one game.

Watching the replay (admittedly through a very different lens), we didn’t change much in terms of structure throughout the game. Brisbane built that lead off turnovers, 30-odd points going end to end untouched.

What we did ‘correct’ was the contest at half forward and defensive transition. Cottrell especially, along with Fogarty & Hollands were able to worry their opponents enough to bring Cuningham, Fantasia & to a lesser extent, Owies into the game.

The bar for any of Martin, new Hollands, Motlop, Durdin, Moir & Monahan to come into the side went up a couple of notches.

Just back in Melbourne from the game (ok, we sent to see From the Jam at the Tivoli which was only ruined by Pommy bovver boys who still thought they were 18- I'll move on). Being there, you could just see the whole body language of the team changed around 20 min into the second. Said to my wife- we are back in this and you could just see it from where I sat- you just dont get that on TV. Crippa was enormous and carried us in the second. Up there with our best H&W wins. Shame about Doc- get him coaching.

It's the Corna.

It's an Italian hand gesture used to ward off evil spirits (specifically the malocchio, which means evil eye) or bad luck.

However, that meaning usually only applies when the horns are pointing down.

When the horns are pointing up, or towards someone, it implies that someone has been cuckolded.

So some people might believe that it was a last ditch attempt by the Lions to turn their luck around.

However, I interpreted it as the Lions coaches sending a message to their team saying that the Blues players were banging their WAGS.

The 1 point win over West Coast at Subi 1995

The Easter 2001 win over Ess with our stars missing

The 48 point comeback win over Ess in 2007.

That Brisbane game was a combination of all the above

Jpulice is correct in that inaccuracy by the Lions was a determining factor but it's nice to see us on the right side of conversion. A great win by Voss and the team. The players just went back to what they do best. Contest and pressure. A quality win.
The kicking skills of Boyd, Williams and to a lesser extent McGovern out of defence were a delight once we settled into the game.
An unexpected but gratefully accepted 4 points.

Jpulice’s point on accuracy making a difference is narrow, a post qtr 1 scoreline of
5 goals 11 to 11 goals 8 tells a story that is beyond the lions being inaccurate

Expected score highlights that we were a bit fortunate.

no Crippa is interesting. Fog clearly executed his job to perfection.

Is this xG business creeping into Aussie Rules now too?

I also like Saad’s game on Cameron
With Boyd and Williams providing the run from defense Saad clearly was the right match up
In the past we have not played Saad on the better small forwards
I thought Saad did a really good job
Cameron did kick 2 goals 3 but he is their go to forward
Saad won some crucial one on ones

There's more to results than raw numbers.
There's pressure and perceived pressure to consider, let alone the eye test.

Blues fought hard and Lions shat themselves when they ran out of petrol tickets in 80% humidity. The change in control was obvious from about 20 minute mark as eric pascoe said above. We dominated the Lions after half time.

Ollie Hollands copped some criticism based on his disposal numbers. He had 29 Pressure Acts. 8 Tackles. 15 kms. Vossy had him where the ball was going to be. I bet he gets some good votes in the BnF.

I expected a 5 point win with us missing 6 best 23. We beat them on their own turf.

25 scoring shots to 21. AFL expected score in the Lions favour. Statistically Lions were more inaccurate. It's a fact.
No one is underestimating the merit of the win but the easy misses at goal certainly went our way this time. Not that I'm complaining.
